They hav not opened it up yet, but he said that I likely shattered a sprag, but at this point it is just an educated guess. I should know for sure either tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll let you guys know when I do.

I spoke to the shop again today and they are pulling the trans and reinstalling it for $100 instead of the normal rate of 60 dollars and hour. They are not sure it is the transmission at this point they think it may be the Tq convertor, but I'll know for sure later today, or tomorrow for sure. They said the fluid is still clear and looks perfect, that is why they are leaning toward the convertor. Since I installed the tranny myself, I am pretty lucky that they are giving me a deal on the labor.

I should have it back on Thursday. I am thinking about changin the name, but I don't really want to be a pest. It's the name I started with and I think I may keep it, you know, to remind me what I had when I started this magical journey. I may still change it, but I'm not real sure yet.

Thank you Alexis, so am I. It died on Sunday and I'm dieing already. I really don't like driving my wifes car all the time. I tend to get pulled over in hers, and not mine. Yesterday I got a ticket for illegal tint, speeding, and the license plate holder covering the word TEXAS on the top. The license plate fine is $250 alone, and the tint was installed by the dealer when we bought the car. I'll get em thrown out, but I want my truck back.

I forgot to mention that I drive much faster in the truck and still have never gottena ticket in it or the other one in two years of driving them. Once I passed a cop that was sitting on the side of the road in the 72 going 85, and I passed pretty close to him. I know the wind from the truck shook the hell out of his car, but he still didn't even flash his lights at me.

my new 72 when mine initially started making noise this most recent time the fluid was still cherry red but it aint the convertor its the low reverse sprag that exploded. that becomes the weak link when the other sprag drum assembly is a hardened unit. did they tell you what was wrong yet im curious myself to find out after talkin so much about it

Well, I found out what happened. The pump gear exploded into three pieces. They are trying to tell me that I didn't install the convertor properly. I took the convertor to get checked out and the guy showed me where the bearings were riding on the shaft of the convertor and said that everything was lined up perfectly and that the pump must have got in a bind or something to cause the gear to break like that. And not to mention that the tranny WILL NOT bolt up to the engine if the convertor is not put in properly, and it ran fine for over 500 miles shows that I didn't put it in wrong. We'll see what the owner says tomorrow. He better not give me any crap about it either, I know it wasn't any fault of mine. I'm always very careful when I install a convertor.

its hard to screw up putting a convertor into a th350 it should slide right in and you seem knowledgeable enough to know when something aint right. you should actually have to slide the convertor out to get it to touch the flexplate once the tranny is installed and like you said you would have never got the tranny installed without the convertor seated. it sounds to me like they are blowing smoke up your @ss to try and screw you with the warranty if thats how they want to act screw em take your business elsewhere and post the name of the place on the board.

I'll post the name if they don't make good on the repair. I'll know tomorrow and I'll let everyone know.

Tranny probs
I have a turbo 350 in my 69 camaro that was set on the dyno at 573hp and my trans holds it just fine. And I'm running a 5,500 stall with a 3.55 posi. I may still be in high school but I rebuilt my trans with a B&M rebuild kit and put on a cast deep pan. It's not that hard to do and you get more power to the ground with the lighter 350th. It should last as long as your not running 6 grand when you hit the 1-2 shift.

It's no problem Blue_71, it's just some times I get a bit tired of people saying what they think I should do when I don't ask for their opinion on it. I take it a bit too seriously sometimes, and I am sorry if I did this time. It's like when I tell someone I want to live in California and they say "California is soooo expensive though", instead of saying "that's nice, I hope you get to soon". You know what I mean?

What happened with your wifes car? Everything else is going pretty well, besides the trans. Once I get it back I will finish the wiring for the doors and windows. I have the solenoids wired temporarily, but I have not done the holes in the jams yet. This weekend it will be done as far as wiring goes. It tucks up front real nice too. I'll send you a pic when I gt it home, it looks gooooooood.

They agreed to fix it under warranty. All I have to pay is the $100 for the removal and installation of the tranny. Next time it breaks I won't even have to pay that, they will take care of everything no questions asked. I pick it up Saturday morning.

Yeah I will have to remember that. I don't usually downshift it manually, but I'll remember not too. Next time it breaks they will have to fix it for zero out of pocket since they are putting it in this time. Pics on Saturday morning.

No, not this time, the new tires are too expensive for that, at $156 a piece I would rather not have to tell my wife I need new ones already.

My lunch allowance is $20 a week, it would take more than a few weeks to get it together.

hmm thats no good so whats plan b lol. also another thing if you are gonna do any burnouts do not throw it into neutral before the engine comes back to idle that will also end the tranny in a hurry. you gotta let it come back to idle before you take it out of gear.
