What does this button do?
I got a 1970 c20 custom camper and was wondering what the little silver button beside the parking brake release does or should do. Anybody know?

Re: What does this button do?
Doesn't sound stock.... might have to trace wires to see what it goes to.

Re: What does this button do?
That is what mine does. It is not a button it is a turning switch, to the left is my main tank and to the right the aux.

Re: What does this button do?
Never mind what? Anyhoo....
If it is next to the parking brake handle, I don't believe it's original. If it is just above where the driver's side a/c vent would be on the open space sheet metal, it is likely a factory fuel gauge switch (switches between main and aux tank fuel level to be displayed on the gauge). The fuel selector valve is normally on the driver's side floor, just inside the sill near the seat adjust lever. Yes, a pic would be most excellent. Shown are the gauge selector switch (pic 1) and fuel tank selector switch (pic 2) (note - the factory gauge selector was not a toggle, it was a rotary knob, just shown for location's sake...): If it's a factory setup, you should have an NL2 code on the SPID (and both of the below switches). Re: What does this button do?
I typed something without thinking, my brain automaticlly went to people I know never seeing my high beam switch before, and I typed that, so I had to delete it.

Re: What does this button do?
More than likely it's just a switch some previous owner put there. That area seems to be the first place they drill holes for switches. I see it all the time in junkyard trucks.
In fact, I have a hole in one of my trucks I still have to weld shut!

Re: What does this button do?
Odd -- is there another wire from that button? If so, where does it go? I'm trying to think of a reason for a button to be wired to a temp gauge.... It's kinda like the PO was either using that gauge for something else entirely, or wired it to monitor two different functions (selectable with the button).

Re: What does this button do?
Despite the risks of time travel, ejection or maiming, I pushed the button. Once while parked, killed the engine. Once while driving. I held it down, pumped the accelerator and released hoping it would make an extremely loud noise and catapult me into 2017. Engine died and it was really tough to start after. I am not pushing that button anymore. Traced the wire but it gets lost behind the cowl. It is wrapped up with a couple others so I will sort it out when I have some more time. Thanks for the entertaining responses.
