85 K10 lift questions

Traded for my truck about a month ago, Afterwords Noticed that the front lift had been done using Square tubing and not actual blocks. Also Noticed had alot of play where front driveshaft slides into yoke.

I have found a place to add leafs and arch my springs but i would appreciate some input on how much lift i can go for before modifying my steering and or lowering the trans case. Sadly i will have to remove lift for now due to unsafe and also have to save up to have drive shafts lengthened. I would just really like to do it right the first time. Unlike the last person.

A lifting block in the front isn't safe but square tubing some people are nuts.On the lifting i think like a 4 is about as high as you can go before doing all the extra stuff.

I had a new, better than stock, front shaft made by Tatton's driveshaft off eBay for only $260. Well worth it when lifting your truck.

It really depends on how you will use the truck how much lift it will need.A daily driver that sees some off road a 4 to 6 inch is prefect any bigger its hard to drive daily with out it wondering all over the road.

Ditch the blocks. That's an accident waiting to happen. MANY lift kits are available to do it right. Rough Country is the least expensive (and most stiff) and then they go up from there.

As far as steering correction a raised steering arm on the axle is perfect for 4" of lift. Price it right and the kit might come with it. With 4" of lift on my K5 I didn't have to adjust the driveshaft length. There should be enough room on the slip yoke to allow for the lift.

Besides buying new, do some craigslist surfing and see if you can find a lift kit that somebody pulled off to throw a bigger one on.

i personally didnt have any issues when i installed a 4 in lift on my ole k-5 was able to use stock driveshafts and steering

The truck at the moment has a make shift 3" lift. I plan to remove the Square tubing for now and priced having my stock springs rebuilt for about 200 for both sides. Is that a good deal?
Also as it sits i think there is to much play where the front shaft slides into the yoke so kinda worried about adding more lift and not modifying the length.
I really appreciate all the input , im trying to figure out how much lift i should go with before pulling my springs out to have them built. From what i gather i can go 4" and and just buy the bracket for the pitman arm and ill be good to go? Also as it sits im running 32 x 11.5's
I plan to mud and off road the truck, but will need to drive very often. Cant exactly say daily due to work 2 jobs and i bring both work trucks home.
Sorry for the noob questions, Ive allways had lowered trucks but now decided i want to lift one.

Does it have lift springs in the back now or is it lifting blocks?

It currently has actual 3" lift blocks in the rear.

A kit like this http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?rout...product_id=125 will give you a 4 inch lift in the rear with the stock springs.Then the front just get 4 inch lift springs probably a good idea to get all new shocks too.
