15x12 backspacing
Just thinking online.....does anyone have any comments on backspacing/offset for pair of 15X12 wheels for the rear of 71 Cheyenne fleetside longbed? I would really like to keep them insode the wheel well. Tires will be 325/50/15s.

well if you are keeping your axle stock (i.e. not narrowing it) and you want the outside of the 325/50 to be approximatly in the same position of your current tire. then its pretty easy. say you have a 15X8 with 4.5 backspace and you want to go to a 15X12. just add the extra width of the wheel to the backspace, this effectively puts all of that wider rubber inward of where you current tires are now. the 12 ich wheel is 4 inches wider than the 8 so add 4 inches to the backspace. 8.5 backspace on the 12 inch wheel. this wheel would have to be custom made and you would have to look out to make sure its not gonna rub your frame or springs on the inside. i don't think i've ever seen a 15X12 on a non narrowed axle that sits inside the fender. thats alot of wheel. reason i am going with 15X10's with a 325/50 bfg drag radial

i've been doing some research (b/c i'm wanting some custom offset 15x10 truck rallies made for the rear of mine) and i found this chart on stockton wheels website. it shows the backspace they can custom make wheels of a particlular width for. so you could actulay get 12's with 8.5 b.s. and shove all that tire inboard. thats the sleeper look i'd liek to have with mine

A freind of mine has 15x12 welds on his 72, with 7.5 inch backspacing. The suspension is all stock and clears fine but you need to mini tub it or widen the wheelwell about three inches so you don't rub on the inside.

Re: 15x12 backspacing
Here are 2 shots of my truck
18.5" Mickey's The bed has been mini tubbed - the frame, shock location etc is all stock. The wheels are factory rally wheel with a spacer inserted into, just what you folks have been talking about. I like this since I can always take the truck back to "stock" is I wanted to and for know I get a ton of thumbs up
