ign. key removal?

hey guys, have a '69 c10 that I cant get the ign. key tumbler to pull out, tried the wire thing etc. but wont budge and cant feel the pin push in, need to change out the chrome bezel, any ideas will help!

Lokdoc explained it pretty well in the tech tips forum. It has always worked for me. Did it a few minutes ago, as a matter of fact.

"Insert a straightened paper clip in the hole (the large ones work best) and push the release pin down (go easy here, it doesn't take much pressure at all) and turn the cylinder to the left a little more. As you turn the cylinder you have to remove the paper clip or it will bind in the hole. The cylinder should pull out. You should not have to force anything."

You might need to soak it in some PB Blaster or similar to free it up.

thanks, i'll try later today, i did not pull the p/clip out but i still did not feel it push in, try the loose spray this time, thanks, i'll let you know hoe it works out.

One small but important thing to add to this. Be sure the key is turned as far to the left as it will go before inserting the paper clip.

this site is great, so many share information, just great, the turn to the left then insert tool to release pin worked our ok, so much I dit it several more times just to make sure it's that easy, thanks again.

Sometimes they are a bugger and won't give! I left 2 behind in the junkyards recently because I had no spray lube. I'd get the button pushed no problem, turn way past ACC but the cylinder just won't pull out. Argh!

Note to self: take spray lube to the junkyard Bob.

Yep, been there, done that. Usually, if you have a lot of time you can work them out, but sometimes it can be a pain....

things were going good, played with the key 3-4 times and felt good, kind of hope no one was looking before, but now the key is locked in cylinder and wont turn or come out, anyway, i'll just get a new key and switch from someware, LMC looks like it, but your help was great, now on to the gauge panel, idiot to cluster, hope I dont burn something up here, when it comes to wires, 2 wire is ok, three is ok, but more than that, its smoke test time for me. lol.

Make sure key didn't slip out one notch when you were messing with it. Try wiggling it and pushing in on it at the same time, then try turning it.
