Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

My fenderwells are just mocked-up, though they've been that way for about 4 years. Try 14" wide wheels and 18.5 (section width) tires!

Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

The 3rd pic is the 15.5's on 12" wheels on the truck until I realized I could 14s with the 18.5 tires.

I'm guessing you're a coil rear end? Truck looks like great possibilities.

Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

I will say this though.....try to bypass the bias ply step and go straight to the radials like the S/R or Hoosier. I can't wait to get these off this spring. They really walk on you. Not a real big deal at low speed but when you really stuff it, it's a little scary. It's like going sideways in a school bus!

+1, I'm running 20x12s with 31 x 16s Mickey Thompson S/Rs and could easily run 18 with the room I have.

Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

I cut down a set of fleetside tubs (sectioned 4") and used them on my stepper. I'm running 18x12's with a 335/30 tire.

Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

Thanks Zoomin. Here's a pic of it (kinda) together. Pic is a little distorted, but you get the idea. I still have plenty of room for a wider tire, but I'm set on the 18x12 / 335 combo for now.

What are you running for a back space on those 14s and how much wiggle room do you have left.

Re: With Wide tubs, What size tire?

Surprisingly I do have a little room. Maybe a 1/2-3/4 inch on the inside and that is based on adjusting to taste on the outside. Seems like I'm 8.5 to the inside and 6.5 to the outside (since a 14" wide wheel is really 15" lip to lip). There is certainly more room under there but the highs and lows of the bed really force you to stop where I did so the fenderwell would sit flush and look factory. Toughest part is tapering the ends so it looks factory.

I reasearched this alot before i did it. 1st off you need to know that a 67-68 rear is1.5" narrower than a 70 up so if you want to stuff get the earlier rear un less you want to pay big for wheels. Yes you can fit a 14 wide wheel with a 9.5 bs but again it has to be made. Your cheapest option is a 12 wide with a 7.5 bs wich are readly avalible and can even be found used. The max tire you can run on them is a mikey thompson 18.5 on the early rear. I run a 12 wide with a 6.5 bs and 345/55/15 and i did not have much clearance so i made some. But you also have to consider i have about 9 1/2 " of drop on my rear so a person with stock hight should be fine with that set up. If you have the later rear i would not go less than a 7.5 bs with a 12 wide. Sorry my pics dont upload with my phone but you can see a side shot in my aviator. The tires are about 14.8 wide section width however you cant get them any more but m/h racing makes a drag radial that is a 375 but its about the same section width.
