Yeah, there were definitely some rust colored areas. This procedure took it right off. As for dents, I do have one under where the license plate goes, and a couple other little areas. Not too much. I haven't done that before, but I'm guessing a heat gun to warm up the metal on the back side, followed by banging on the back side with a rubber mallet should help. Not sure though. If anybody has done this before, please chime in

Lol. Not yet. I'm still kinda stiff and sore from taking this one off the truck at the junk yard. Got a couple small dents I'd like to deal with too

BTW, I have land, barn, tractor shed and 3 other out buildings and still no place for my truck!!! I want to tear down my 2 bay tractor shed and make a 3 or 4 bay garage, for the truck, tractor and shop. I have a house project that's ahead of that though. Some day....

Lol. Yeah, it's tough, but the conjugal visits make it all worthwhile.

As for the mirror project, I love the mount and the spot it is located, but it turns out that resilvering a mirror is a lost art. There's nowhere I can find that will do it, so I'll just have to break down and buy a whole mirror head, and mount it to my stock mount

metabo makes a high speed angle grinder/cut off tool. i cut an X in the head of my bolts and insert a small pry bar and remove the pieces. didnt scratch the paint.

i'm not sure what Metabo means, but theyre made in Deutschland.

Ok guys. It's done and mounted to the truck. There were a few little dents and areas that weren't as straight as I'd like, so I bought a heavy rubber mallet, heated up the areas from the back side, and pounded them. It turned out quite well. Very satisfying project

Oh, by the way guys, go get yourself a breaker bar if you haven't already. These bolts just get way too rusted to easily get at with a 10" socket wrench. Get the longest breaker bar you can, and use it with your existing sockets. It'll give you the leverage to get the bolts off. I really wish I'd had this when I took the bumper off at the junk yard. I found one at Harbor Freight for 12 bucks.
