Alternator Conversion
Hi guys! I'm new to this awsome board and this is my first post. I'm converting my 71 C10 to an internally regulated alternator. I've done a search, but I'm still not clear about a couple of things. There is a blue wire and a white wire going to the plug on the old alternator. Can I simply splice the new plug to these two wires after jumping the voltage regulator plug? If so which wire goes to terminal #1 and which goes to #2? Also, there was a ground on my old alternator. Do I leave that off?

Dark Blue #1 And White #2 #1 is toward drivers side and #2 is the passengers side of the alternator, they should be marked on the back of it. I just left the black wire hooked up on mine (Can never have too many grounds) And then just jump the regulator plugs and it should be good to go. Also somewhere on here I saw a factory looking style plug to jump the regulator but I know it is aftermarket. But it looks better than the two wires for jumpers. I wish I could remember who had them.

Welcome from Seattle. I converted my externally reg alt to an internally reg unit a while back. I did not go to a 1 wire hook up....however I boght a nice plug that bypassed the external regualtor...as wellI rebuilt my own alternator at the same time.....the links for the vendors where I bought my parts are on my website and you can chek it out and see if that helps. It took no time at all to do this.

Here is a good article on the subject. It is being done on a Chevelle, but the wiring should be pretty much exactly the same.

MY BUDDY FROST89434 (JIM) DID MINE WHILE WE WERE SWAPPING MOTORS IN MY TOWTRUCK, & INSTEAD OF JUST JUMPING THE WIRES, HE CUT OUT THE VOLT. REG. PLUG ALLTOGETHER & HOOKED THE WIRES TOGETHER WITH BUTT CONECTORS. IT LOOKS MUCH CLEANER & MORE PERMANENT. JOHN

I have the plugs for this conversion, and they have the resistence diodes built into them. Makes the change over very clean and simple. PM me if interested.
