loud speaker placement?

i plan on a no expense spared super loud system in my 72.

i went to a store and they want to cut holes in my doors for 2 6X9" 2 tweeters in the door panel, 14" under the seat

anybody have a better idea?

I'm not fond of the idea of cutting holes in my doors.

tweeter on the panels and the 14 under the seat is ok, i guess

First off, if they are planning on running 6x9's in a high end system walk away. Any high end system will use component speakers with the exception being two way (mid+tweet) if space is limited.

With the progress of speaker technology most companies offer very low profile speakers that can be surface mounted. This would require small holes to be drilled to mount an enclosure to your door surface, but would not need a large hole like they are suggesting.

I recommend you spend some time in the Forums audio section and gain all the knowledge you can acquire before shopping again.

Thank You, that is what i will do, i have knowledge in several areas, but none in modern day stereo systems.

i was at a wedding reception last fall, the DJ had 2 Bose round sticks speakers, 3 or so feet tall, very small and rocked like a concert. there has to be a better way than the 6X9" speakers and holes in my doors.

6x9's suck don't cut the doors. Someone makes kick panels for the mid bass driver and you could mount the tweets up on your dash.
You can also stuff two ten inch subs under the seat and with amps between or in glove box. Rockford fogs ate makes amps that push high power that are the size of a cigarette pack.

There is a lot of subjectivity to this. My opinion about an unobtrusive, great sounding system is the following. 4" component speaker system installed in the door PANELS. You put the driver below the door handle and the tweeter above. I mounted the crossover on the kick panel. I put a 10" sub under the passenger side of the bench seat and mounted a 2,3 or 4 channel amp under the center. I ran the amp in 3 channel mode with 50x2 into the components and 100x1 into the sub.

For my '69 short bed I plan a similar install, but went with co-ax 5 1/4" for the doors and will run 4" coax in the dash with one on the left channel and one on the right. I'm using all Kicker components including there pre-enclosed 10" sub.

I've done several sets of 4's in the doors including the system in my Jimmy now, but the 5 1/4" is untested. I picked a low profile as possible speaker and have my fingers crossed that it will clear the glass when rolling the window down. If you don't want to cut your original door panels grab a junkyard set or even easier a set of plastic repro ones. The steel door panels are harder to cut. I taped up the front and used an adjustable circle cutter in my drill press which does a great job of cutting both the vinyl and steel if it's sharp and you take your time.

Well, first of al Im old! and old school----

I like a decent sound system---but,, I bought new doors for my truck because some previous "sound person" cut holes in the previous doors.

My thought is the truck is more valuable (to me) without being butchered for the sake of having music.
There are other alternatives to butchering the truck.

No, they do not fit with the tank behind the seat. As soon as I move my tank I am getting a pair.
