Re: driveshaft angle with pix

Typically the difference between the tailshaft and pinion should be 2-3 degrees.

Re: driveshaft angle with pix

How should I figure out the difference? Do I unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion and put the angle finder on the flat part. Thanks for your help

Output shaft on tansmission should be the same as the input on the rear end. Also, that driveshaft ought to be into that tranny about 2 1/2" further.

That picture is with the truck at stock height. I plan on doing bags with ame c-notch. when I do the angle of the drive shaft will get worse I assume.

Right. Do you have room between the trans and the cab floor to shim the transmission mount?

Re: driveshaft angle with pix

Should be 2.5" from tailshaft to center of front ujoint.
Your pinion angle looks fine, for now.. wait you never posted your pinion angle. The trans output and pinion should be parallel. The driveshaft shouldn't be any more than 3* different than your pinion/trans output angle.

Ok when I get home I will degree the pinion, driveshaft and tail shaft. Is there any special way to degree the pinion?

Re: driveshaft angle with pix

I think I might shim the trans mount up about 1/4" and re-measure.

Just something to consider, when you accelerate the pinion will rotate down. .. so your 4* up is okayy .. but it will quickly go to 1-2* or so as you pull away from the stop lights.

If I am thinking correctly, if you shim the trans mount up just a hair wouldn't that put them close to equal but not zero'ed out ?

Just to add something else for you.. read through this kit writeup. It will make it all make more sense (it did for me) I know this is S10 stuff, but I promise I used this kit on my 96 S10 ext cab it has ZERO vibration in it anywhere. It is smoother now than it was from the factory. I'm sure the same concept applies to our C10s.

Re: driveshaft angle with pix

I might have at max a 1/4" to play with. It is pretty tight between the tunnel and trans.

CC69.
THe pinion rotates up. THat's why some people install a pinion snubber on the nose of the rearend to limit the upwards travel.

Coils or leaf's?

If your running coils, here is some info for shims. I am running them and they work great.

The trick its to get the angles of the output shaft and the pinion as close as possible to the same and you are you are within 2° which is not too bad. At this point you can shim the trans up if you have room or shim the rear axle. If I were in your shoes, I would get some 2° shims for the rear end and call it good. In a perfect world your drive shaft angle would be less than 3° different than the other angles. However, with a lowered vehicle this may not be achievable. The big question after you get the angles a close as you can is this, do you have a vibration? If not, don't sweat it. Hope my synopsis helps.

What transmission crossmember are you using?

Thank you. I think I will drive it first and see if it vibrates at all. Just didn't want to get it all together just to tear it all apart again. If it does I will try and put the shims on the rear end. Do the shims just go under the axel perches.

Yep, the shims go directly under the axle perches.
