Wiper Motor Park Position - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello,

I replaced my wiper motor with a new/rebuilt unit from RockAuto. I re-installed the arm on the motor in the same position as the original came off (about 8:00). Now that the new one is installed, I powered it up and it swing over to about the 4:00 position. I have run it a few times and made sure it comes back to 4:00 as the park position now. Is there any reason for me to change it back to 8:00? It seems to me that the park position doesn't matter as it just spins all the way around, but I might be missing something. Don't want to take it back apart for something I can fix now!

Turn it on and off to get park position.Then remove wiper arms and reposition.

Maybe I didn't explain correctly.

The new motor's park position (where the arm bolted on the motor stops) is different than the original motor. I am wondering if there is any potential issue here?

I don't believe there is, since the motor just spins in a complete circle and I can put the wiper arms on in any position.

I am looking for clarification that it is ok, or a reason why I need to change something.

I don't think it will make a difference as long as it parks in the same spot every time.

The position on the arm does not matter at all. What does matter is that they park and most important, the wiper transmissions move in the right direction. It is posibble to hook the arm on in a way that will cause the wiper transmissions to rotate the opposite way which would leave some nice marks on your hood if you have the wiper arms on.

I would use a black marker and mark the wiper transmissions from the center out to simulate where the wiper arm would be positioned. Then turn them on and watch the action of the transmissions and make sure they rotate and park correctly.

To answer the question again. the position of the arm does not matter.
