looking for opinions

I just recently got a 1971 GMC long bed with a straight six and three speed. I want to restore it but I cant decide to go with a complete frame-off or just fix sections as I go. Also I can't decide between keeping it original with the six cylinder or drop a v8 in it. All thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated..I'll post pics later

is it drivable? id say go with a v8 for fun, and repair sections as you go that way you can enjoy it and after you have enjoyed it for awhile, do the frame off. you'll get burned out and give up if you tear it down now, but if you have drove it for awhile you'll be motivated to finish it.

Drive it as you do it in sections. As long as its in OK shape to drive, its the best way to do it.

And I would put a V-8 in it. Much more fun.

Ya unless you have SEVERAL thousands of dollars to do a frame up and not drive it for awhile the drive as you go is usually the best bet.

I would take it one step at a time. Too many people start with enthusiasm and end up selling an unfinished project.

I say run it til you're ready for a frame off. I'm fixin to drive mine until I'm done with my cj5 frame off and there's room in the shop. However my wife just informed me we're having a baby so who knows? The plan is to give the older boy the 5 and have the K20 ready in time for the younger boy. The new baby I'm thinking will get a K5 if it's a boy. If its a girl I'll hold the K20 till she's ready for high school. That should be enough time. So, yeah, long story longer drive it and fix as you go.
I also have a 76 formula 400 sitting down by the pond which my wife like to take mudding down in the pasture I'd like to restore but it's too much fun driving!

Thanks alot for the input and here are some pics of what im starting with...should be an easy project..worst body damage is the passenger side, fand floor pans, and there are a few rough places under the rattle can paint job. I think im gonna go with a 350 because they are extremely easy and cheap to find around here
