86 sierra won't start

i just bought a 1986 gmc sierra and brought it home parked it in the driveway and now its not starting with out jumping the battery once you jump it it drives fine but as soon as you shut it off its dead and it wont start i test drove the truck and even at the persons house i got it from we must have moved it around at least 4 times it worked fine but now its not starting i went out and bought two brand new batteries that are recommended for my truck for about three days it worked no problem started up on the first shot and now its dead again and wont start unless you jump the batteries how does this keep happening?? i just noticed is my dash lights don't work and my reverse bulbs and brake light bulbs keep being burnt out and i changed them when i got the truck 4 days ago

hi welcome
can you check the battery for voltage,before,while starting,then running
if the alt is over charging it may blow things
so 12, before
low of 9,when starting
high 14.5,charging
and pics everybody like pics

I would do like motornut said and check the alternator real good. If that checks out then I might start thinking maybe there is a draw on the system somewhere. Might have a short somewhere.

ok great i will try checking the voltage and see what that is i just got the truck back from the shop there saying it was the belt that's connected to the alternator they said it was worn out so they replaced it its been running good but after i start it the battery lights always on until i give it some gas then it goes away

sounds like an laternator not working or bad wiring

Ensure the connections are all clean and tight. Verify the battery voltage as well as charging system voltage when it's running. If you don't have a meter you should pick one up even if it's a cheap one.
