Project "Full Circle" 66 C10

What's up everyone? I've been lurking on the forum for almost a year reading up on the awesome projects and decided to start a build thread of my own.

This truck is pretty special to me because it was originally my Father's when I was a little kid. I always loved riding in the truck and getting dropped off at soccer practice while the other kids were climbing out of mini vans. Anyway, when I was about 12 my Father ended up selling the truck to buy something more economical. A few years later my uncle came across it for sale. The new owner's son slide it sideways into a tree, taking out the bed and bending the frame. My uncle bought it, and another truck for parts with the hopes of making one good truck. Both trucks sat inside his garage for about 15 years until I got the bright idea to sell my car and do a proper rebuild.

The plans for the truck are a 350, 4 speed Muncie, and 9" rear. I just ordered a Porterbuilt C4 dropmember and weld in 4 link. The frame will be boxed and it will ride on coilovers.

"Full Circle" - The truck was my fathers. The 350 was out of my brother's truck. He replaced it with a built 383. The Muncie was my Dad's friends, then his son's, then I bought it. This truck has a lot of history.

My brother's truck. 83 K30, Built 383, TH400, d60, 14bolt, 5.13s, lockrite, detroit, full cage, 39" boggers.



He is also building 1969 C10 rear engine mud truck on 2.5 tons

My Father is also building a 57 Chevy. Built 454, TH400, 9" rear, boxed, shockwaves, wilwood brakes etc.



and my other toy: 2000 Jeep Wrangler, HP30, D44, 4.88s, ARBs, 35 MTRs, Full belly and gas tank skids

Welcome. Some great looking toys you have there. Looks like you have more than enough parts to put the truck together. It always helps to have choices on parts. I think that its great to have history with the truck your working on and to also still have the family involved.

Thanks guys. The truck was originally a long fleet but I'm chopping it down to a short fleet. I threw this thread together at work pretty quick so if I missed anything or you have questions then fire away.

Quick update: got the C4 vette parts. I'm going to replace the ball joints and bushings.



I should have the Porterbuilt stuff in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the info. Nice start so far, that frame chop looks clean! I am enjoying these family builds, It is a cool feeling working on your fathers old truck I have to say. Looks like building cool trucks runs in your blood.Seeing your the closest member around here I might have to take a ride your way and check out your build.

Some old pics to keep it interesting. This was my first truck. 1989 S10 long bed. 2.5l, auto (slow as hell). Bought it when I was 15 with a bad rod knock for $500. My father and I rebuilt the motor, cut coils, blocks, used wheels and eventually painted it.

Another (non-C10) update. While waiting on the Porterbuilt order I decided to swap to a CJ drop down tailgate and pull a dent out of the Jeep. The stock tailgate is a swing out and completely useless. The CJ style makes a great bench and looks cooler too.





I finally got the bed from my uncle's garage too. It was buried behind two cars and tons of parts. Pretty straight and almost rust free.

Looking good man! I like the history the truck has for you that's great. You'll like the C4 parts, I just finished putting all my new bushings in everything a couple weeks ago. The Jeep looks good too! I've got a 98' TJ that's lifted with 35's it's a blast! But I also just tore the rear diff out of it a couple weeks ago so I have to add that to the to do list lol

Thanks. What did you use for bushings?

What kind of rear diff did you blow up? I have an ARB with alloy axle shafts. Been working great so far (knock on wood )

I should have my Porterbuilt stuff next week hopefully. Then the fun begins

-Energy polyurethane bushing kit it was nice, good instructions and all the bushings are numbered where they go, also 2 piece so they go in way easier then the old ones come out!

-It's a Dana 44 with 3.73's and alloy shafts, the limited slip unit went bad, I haven't got to tear it apart all the way yet but I think an axle bearing went bad and maybe put it on a bind.

Is it a factory Rubicon D44? I hear those limited slip / lockers are a little weak (the front is actually stronger because it is only a locker, no LS). If you can swing it, go with an ARB. Pretty easy to install since the shims go on the outside of the bearings. Although you do need a case spreader to get enough preload on the carrier.

Finally some real updates. I got my Porterbuilt order on Monday and took the rest of the week off to get everything cleaned up and in etch primer. I spent a lot of time cleaning and sanding all the edges down.

This is the first "version 4" C4 dropmember.

I had the wrong instructions for the notch location and had to move it back 3/4" of an inch. Not a big deal to fill in.

Very nice update man! You must be so excited! I'm happy for you!those pb parts are definitely metal art....wish I could have afforded to go that route,maybe my next one I do!

Small update. I got the notches and the gaps filled in. Going to grind it all smooth and etch prime it, then bolt everything back up and start on the back. It will be winter before I know it and need to get the cab pulled apart, sandblasted and primed, and sitting on the frame before the snow flies.
