Headlight Switch-Not getting 12v
Hey guys,
Trying to get the truck running by April 1 and I am wrapping up wiring. The last part is the headlight switch and wiring. Right now, I am getting power at the headlight terminal and the dimmer switch terminal, but I am not getting power to the dash lights or parking lights. Can someone give me some ideas of why I would not be getting power at the other terminal? Oh, and the switch is brand new. The terminals in red are the hot ones and yellow are not. Thanks! |

Make sure you have a good body ground wire from the battery (-) to the radiator support.
Also, I am assuming you have the original wiring harness? There is a seperate fuse for the dash lights, marked "panel" on the fuse box. But if I understand, you have no power at the headlight switch for the park lights or dash lights? Do you have tail lights? In original configuration, the front park lights will go out when the headlights are on. |

No other lights are getting power including tail lights. I checked those terminal with my 12v meter-nothing there. The battery is grounded to the frame. Is this the same in all the h/l switch positions?I double checked the referrence I have and you are exactly correct on which wires should be "hot".One of the brown wires will only have 12V with the switch in the first position- that is for the front park lights. if you want them on all the time with the tail lights, you can piggyback that wire to one of the other brown wire.
I am sure you have, but I would install the knob/shaft and operate the switch a couple times. Sometimes the contacts are not quite aligned when first tried. Depending on where you got the switch, it may be defective. As I learned years ago- "new means new-not necessarily good" |
