Rick, what cam are you running with that single plane high-rise? That's probably not helping.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Jeremy I'm running a stock cam..
This engine burns oil like you wouldn't believe! Worse then the other one! After about 30 minutes of driving it burns an entire quart! I don't think I'm gonna make it to the show.. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Dude, that sucks! Sorry to hear that. I know what it's like to fire up a used engine and have to shut it off just to pull it back out. Live and learn.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Whatever balancer you're looking at spend the cash for a fluid dampener one they are too truck I love mine to death it's amazing what keeping the crank completely balance will do for a motor

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Also, do you plan on running a double roller chain? If so you know about grinding the block for clearance, right? Fluid dampeners are tops. But for that kind of money you may want to make sure your bottom end is worth the investment.
I still think you will have performance issues with tour intake/cam combo. If you are that far into it why not do a new bump stick Posted via Intergalactic Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
the plugs look perfect. and its doing both. the oil is leaking so much that i gets onto my exhaust and burns off as im driving which creates smoke... jeremy i ddi not know about grinding the block for clearence with the double roller chain do you have any pics?
i did do one thing productive. i managed to run my vacuum lines in a really nice way. |

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Oil from the heads? Seeping through the gaskets and ontop of the headers correct? What kind of gaskets are you using?
I ran those rubber with metal lunging re-usable ones for a long time and leaked like a siv now I run thick cork style and haven't leaked on my drip pan in almost a month now Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
no its coming from the rear of the oil pan and the harmonic balancer.. and then from there it flays back to the passenger exhaust and then it burns. its making a mess of the whole frame really i am actually sorry that i sold the 350 i pulled out of my 68 K10. i wish i just put that in my truck. thing ran like a top and with a little paint and some gaskets it would have actually did what i thought this one was gonna do for me... im pretty discouaraged. but then again im not really a master engine guy, i shouldve known what was to become of my plans for this engine. oh well. if i pull this engine out again or fix it while its in the truck and it still leaks or doesnt run right then im gonna pull it out and use it for a table. lol if you dont want to work then ill make sure you never do haha

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
Did you figure out the miss? Leak at the rear main or pan?

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
its the pan i believe. and yeah it has to be the timing chain. ive been through all the vacuum lines and double checked the intake not a leak insite for the intake. so that leaves me with bad timing or oil in the cumbustion chamber.. and timing is as good as it will ever be and the spark plugs have no carbon build up. so there cant be any oil getting in there. leaves me with my timing chain and since its so loose that would explain why it would be miss firing because its having poor timing. so new timing chain will fix my miss fire and new harmonic balancer will fix the leak. so im gonna get new timing chain cover gasket kit and a new harmonic balancer or a really good used one with no grooves and then ill pull it aprt and fix it. i dont think the intake/cam alliance isnt right because when i had new spark plugs that didnt have real bad carbon on the 302 it would run pretty good actually. its just that it was tired and didnt have the power it was capable of having.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"
alright now that the discouraged stage has passed its time for planing and idea stage lol i have a motor head buddy who lives fairly close to me and gives me good deals (not the race car guy) and he has plenty of engine parts and components so he should have harmonic balancers and stuff. so ill buy a good harmonic balancer from him and then use that on the 327 and as for timing chain.. i want it new so that way theres no way in hell that things can be loose lol
