I'm agreeing with you Joe. I was curious if I was crazy for thinking I ought to leave it like it is and obviously plenty of people think I should. One thing is for certain, once painted i cant go back which is why I am leaning more towards keeping as is.

Plus that free's up more money for the next one...

You and I both know this won't be your last purchase.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Now that it has made it to three pages of voting for patina. I would pay money for real patina. I would fix any cancerous rust, wet sand and coat with a flat clear coat. If you are going to paint anything.....just do interior painting.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Nate, I think this is #44 but you know me too well. I never dreamed I'd be approaching truck number 50 but then when I think about it I bought my first truck, a 67 C-10 in July of 1981. There were some dry years when i was into Pontiac's and grand nationals but that only lasted 5 years.
I have done my best to preserve each of them and I will be doing the same with this one also.
I am really into the 3/4 tons whereas in the past I always had 1/2 tons.
The next one has got to be a longhorn. I am keepin an eye out
I promise more pictures as soon as we get over the 10" of snow here.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Here are a few more I took for you Nate.
Other than the coil and some hose clamps it is bone stock under the hood.
Even the friver door has no paint wear at the top where people usually rest their arm. I am not saying for sure but maybe that 40k miles on it really is for real?

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

I would leave it i like the stock look. So what if patina is a fad, i will like it either way, but i'm not a fad kinda guy. I'm taking chome and bling off my rides going for the clean stock look, i'm sick of bling/wheels fad. I enjoyed my nova alot more before i sank the money to have a nice paint job put on it just a thought.

There is a big crowd favoring the leave it alone look. I am favoring that option as well.
Hey Joe, Here you go.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

I can barely see it in a couple spots but you have to use a microscope.
My old farm truck still has it on there from the factory. I actually like the pin stripe and wish it wasnt all faded out.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

I am going through the same choice as you.just scored an original 69 c10
After thinking it over and listening to input im opting to go with leaving the patina. When I found that my truck was covered in the original factory paint/interior in and out I decided it had too much character to wipe the slate clean.

Plus it frees money up for other items

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

No question in my books, it has perfect patina, I'd put my money into getting the mechanical part of things just the way you want it.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Thanks to the help of guys like Joe and Reed the truck is starting to take on a different look.
Other than fixing dings and the dents at the rear plus the rockers and a few little things I decided to leave it as it is for now. Maybe I'll change my mind down the road.
Joe sold me the killer mags and tires and it really has the 70's look that I love.
