Auto Column Shift Levers? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Is there a difference between the tilt and non tilt shifter lever in an auto column? If so, can a non tilt shifter be used or modified to work in a tilt column? I've located aftermarket non tilt shifter levers, are the tilt shifter levers available aftermarket?

They are not the same.
Do you need a replacement...or are you looking for a custom touch?

Thanks Longhorn. I'd prefer a replacement, but I'd be open to a custom part, depends on the appearance.

I may be able to get my handson a tilt gear selector lever...but not untill (next) friday ant the soonest.

I don't have one of the tilt shift levers here at home but heres a scan of the non-tilt shift lever end that inserts into the steering column,

the tilt one I will get a pic of Monday at latest if I don't grab one later today from the office. On the tilt ones where the hole is on the non-tilt it has material removed about 1/3 of its thickness on either side and forms a curved dish. " Hope you understand that explanation its a little hard to explain as they say a pics worth a thousands words. " The tilt column lever end that inserts into the column is about 1/2 as long as a non-tilt is also. Big differences you could never confuse the 2 by looking at the end that goes into the column.

No pic of a tilt one here either. but that ball is missing and it looks more like a machined edge that slides into a notch.

Thats also the same one used in the 70's van tilts. So thats another option if you want to check the boneyard.
