Moving The Truck....Anyone done this?
For reasons I really can't get into, I need to find a Uhaul type vehicle to move my truck IN. I know I can move it on a trailer, but I need to move it in a closed type box moving truck. I measured it and it is less than 7 ft wide. Uhaul makes a 7'7" wide truck, but I'm concerned about the wheel humps inside of the Uhaul. Has anyone done this before and know of a specific moving truck that will work? By the way I have to do this myself, so car moving companies won't work.
Thanks for y'alls help once again!! Shawn

It sounds like you need a "dock truck" with the floor above wheel height. The problem would be getting the truck in, and out. A warehouse with a ground level door to drive in the warehouse, and a below grade dock to drive it in the truck would be the best bet.

Thanks for the suggestion Class of 69. Any suggestions on who carries those type trucks. I think ryder does, but I'm not sure. Uhauls trucks are only 2 ft off the ground, so I could make ramps for that. I know Ryders are a bit higher.

also...you have a rear slider? if not, you will have an interesting time getting out of the truck with 7" clearance spread between 2 sides.

GMC-I was thinking the same thing, you might wanna pop your back window out unless you plan on sitting in the truck for the road trip! lol

I used to run OTR for a pet food co. We brought back lots of cars from Omaha NE, and Topeka KS, to the Twin Cities in the empty trailers for back haul. They just crawled out the side window, and nailed blocks to the floor to keep them from rocking back and forth too much.

So let me get this straight.....
You need to move a truck. It has to be enclosed inside, out of sight. You have to do it by yourself, rather than using a company. Sounds suspicious. Do you also need to know where to buy VIN number plates and rivets too?

buy me a plane ticket, I'll fly out and drive it to Houston for you. If thats where you taking it to...
if you haul it enclosed, besure to account for the rocking movement back anf forth and side to side of the body inside the trailer. Unless you compress the suspension when hauling it... tommie |

Thanks for the input guys!!! N|o it's nothing illegal. I am moving back home and the military won't pay to move anything not in a truck, hence no car dollies or trailers. It doesn't matter anyway, I can't afford the 2300 Uhaul rental anyways. Thanks for all of your help anyways!!!
BTW, It takes a suspicious person to think like one!!!???!?? Ha Ha

The military won't pay for you to do it, however, if you just tow it out of pocket, they can't say anything.
Then if you tell them some one is driving it...they'll give you gas money. C.I.D. hangs out at all the loading docks and the like...trying to sneak it by may get you busted if you want them to puck up on the bill to haul it. |

I hauled my old '71 Bronco in a U-Haul. The in-box fenders (U-Haul) are only about a couple inches high. I laid 2X6 blocks down and used them to ramp over the wheel wells. I cut wheel chaulks and nailed them to the floor and then cut longer boards to wedge between the back of the front tire to the front of the U-Haul wheel wells and then set the parking brake. Then I stacked the household stuff on top of, in the back of and behind the Bronco. I used the furniture cushions and blankets as padding so neither the Bronco nor the furniture would get messed up. It actually worked pretty good. But since the Bronco is much narrower it wasn't a problem climbing out the window once inside.
The aluminum box beds are just as easy to work with. You have to be a little more creative with your wheel stops because you can't nail them in, but you can build box type stops that wedge from the front wall to the front of the front tires. I had to haul mine this way because I was in a real time crunch and there wasn't a trailer available. My wife drove her truck which we were paid both mileage and per-diam for along with per-diam for the kids.... I'll post a few pics when I can find them
