Gotta admit- I had no idea about the 50th trucks until I started lurking here, learning what to look for and what to avoid.

But after plenty of lurking & searching, now I know.

The truck will get a close inspection very soon. If it is an original 50th, and as nice underneath as it appears, I will either leave it as is, or pass on buying this one, and find a "nothing special" truck to build to my tastes.

Not interested in showing. My last project was a sports car, built with performance in mind. Built totally to my tastes, with no regard to originality. Suprised the snot out of me to show up at a club's track day, and have guys drooling all over it, even though the car was not yet finished.

I was asked to show the car a few times, and my standard answer:
1- I don't want to put in the effort to clean it to show standards
2- I'd rather be out driving it.

My goal for this truck is daily driver reliability, as I will use it as a truck. I haul stuff. I tow trailers.
I currently have a more contemporary truck, and it is used two or three days a week, sometimes several days in a row. It is a great truck, but it is boring me to tears.
Time for something more attractive and unique, without giving up any truck capability.

The first publicly sold truck was in 1918, but in 1916 there were trucks being used "in house" at Chevy. And there are some historians that claim some of the 1914 field ambulances in France were built by Chevy, most likely on the series H platform, although it's hard to know for sure since very little remains in the way of photos.

IMHO, since I am a purist, I would restore. As was mentioned earlier tho, these trucks are really not rare. Its good for business to pretend they are but nowhere near say a 1956 Porsche roadster America. Now what's good about these trucks is they aren't super expensive...yet. I think you should do what you like. I would paint it metallic and pearl it with the gold and white theme and RPO A50 with a gold accent trim interior.
Or...parts that are gold I would gold plate and parts that are white silver plate and everything else flat black. Just ideas...would never happen cuz I'm a purist and would keep it stock.

Paint it whatever color you want ,judging from the talent I've seen on these builds anything can be undone or fixed,It will always be a 50th no matter what color it is

I wouldn't change it, but probably because Gold and White is my favorite scheme on these trucks.

To a purist it might be. From a value standpoint, no. I love these trucks just as much as the next guy, but they just aren't worth anything. I would base your decision on whatever will make you smile, everytime you see and drive it. Not what the next guy who will own it might think. It takes just as much time and money to restore one of these trucks as say, a 70 LS6 chevelle. One is worth just a little more than the other. Come sell time, you will lose a LOT more money on the truck, so build it to suit you!

I agree with SOME of what Turp says. I wouldn't say these trucks aren't worth anything. And there is money to be made on them if you don't go overboard. Very few full on restores get the money back out of them. You have to hit a fine line between really nice truck and full numbers matching resto. The gold and white doesn't really bring any extra monetary value to these trucks. But it does make it more desirable from the standpoint of generally unmolested truck. If you are doing a full on build, then sure repaint it. If you are just doing a nice driver type build them leave the gold and white. If you ever need to sell ( and I always take into consideration that I might need to sell something when building it, no matter what it is, because you just never know), then the next owner will like the fact that either the paint is original with no surprises, or that it was kept true to nature. I don't mind the ls swap because
A) A lot of people see this as a simple swap that can be reversed if desired
B) An ls swap is generally seen as a good thing for reliability
For some reason people don't have issues with engine transplants, but when they think they will have to paint or repaint they tend to shy away.
JMHO. That's my .02, but I expect its not worth much as inflation makes food for thought crazy expensive!!!
