original paint or repaint

Like a lot of you, I'm in love with my truck. !970 C10 stepside, medium iradescent bronze /white. Overall the paint is in good condition, but I have dents, scratches and some discoloration in places. I've repainted the bed rails, portions of the bed interior and the white where there was rust..now the big question: What about the rest? Some of the serious dents will need to be taken to mettle, pulled, some bondo to look right. Should I try to touch up and blend with the old paint or just paint the all of the bronze. I'd like some feedback. Thanks Lou

I like shiny, so fix the scratches and dents, then paint it.

Nice LWB step you have!

To each his own but my opinion is make it shine like a baby's butt with a nice original color paint job.

Re: original paint or repaint

Look up "paintless dent removal" in your area. There are places that can remove dents or improve them greatly without you needing to repaint the truck.

Re: original paint or repaint

I'll try the paintless dent removal. There arent many dents, but the ones are obvious and driving me nuts. Hood is decent, just some scratches.

Re: original paint or repaint

Clean it up as best you can until you are ready to do a paint job time and moneywise. Then jump in and do the body work and a repaint. trying to color match that paint is going to be very difficult to get even a near match. Moving metal around via paintless type repair can do a lot for appearance until you are ready to finish work it. Just don't fall into the rattle can "prime it until I paint it" trap. It looks bad, even more so five years later. Remeber its a truck and little dents can give it character big wheels and rubberband tires never will.

Re: original paint or repaint

That's solid advice. Thanks all. The build sheet states 2 tone: white over med ir. copper with a code of 522. We have a good auto paint shop here in San Antonio that can mix the paint.

Re: original paint or repaint

yeah, it was pretty much love at first sight, though it was rough. Engine was locked up and it was filthy. I pulled a trash bag full of cedar & live oak leaves out of the cowl and air vents. Muddauber nests in the heating/defrost ducts ..and get this, some small animal had been living in the wells behind the seat...straw and bones. But now, damn that 350 purrs. My wife is getting suspicious!

Re: original paint or repaint

You were clear the first time on the trash in the vents.
Have you actually pulled the heater core and cleaned it or just the vents?
Also there are screen kits to help prevent the accumulation in the plenum area.
Finally what happened to the brush/grille/cattle guard that is in some of your pictures? There are many here that would want to buy one (including me) so don't say you scrapped it.

Re: original paint or repaint

Still have the cattle guard. Its a heavy duty one, probably made by D&D Ranch Supply --they made the rear bumper.

Must be pretty bad if they take mettel to deal with Hey,just playing!
I say keep it original till it ever gets restored. If it starts looking that bad it'll most likely be time for at least a full cosmetic resto.
