Craigslist truck- I don't know if I can see past those tail lights!

http://eugene.craigslist.org/cto/3717386442.html

Check out this truck in my town. I actually saw this truck at a local show. It is quite nice looking in person. I've been thinking about going to talk to the guy about buying it, BUT I just can not stand those tail lights. Am I being too picky for that price range? You guys agree?

I think if it's as nice as the pictures show it and the tail lights are all you don't like then buy it! U can alway redo them.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Yeah, those aren't so great. What a shame. The thing that stinks, is that they hacked up the fenders to do it, and it's got a decent paint job now, so it'd take a lot to get it the way you want it. For that kind of coin, you should be able to hit the ground running with something that doesn't need something that major

Those tail lights suck. Luckily chopping them out would be easy.

The fenders are removable, you can pull em of, weld em up, spray em off the truck, and slap em back on.

I guess it depends on the quality of his restoration work. I would look it over carefully in person. See if he has photos of the resto in progress so you can get an idea of sheet metal repair. Short fleets usually demand a higher price than short steps so he is looking at decent money for his truck. The tail lights shouldn't scare you away if everything else is good but obviously it is a modified truck. If you want a stock restored truck this one may not be the truck for you if it has been modified also in the interior, drive live, etc.

I'm confused. Is it $12.5k for a project or a complete truck? If completed, why not show those pictures? No description/no pictures,I'd move on to something better. Seller seems right proud and probably wouldn't want to hear,"You've done an excellent job on it,but would you knock off $1000 to fix those tail lights?"

Ya, the taillights kinda want me to look the other way. Not a real good selection of pictures also. If someone that built this truck thinks the taillights are a nice addition I would be scared of the other stuff he did that was also ,"awesome" in there eyes...shagg carpet hanging off the ceiling comes to mind.tilt wheel out of an 81 camaro...etc...But you could always look out your front window while watching reruns of Miami Vice and think to your self you have the baddest arse truck on the block...

It does have completed pics in the listing. Looks like it was in a show.

Not bad but I am out because of the lites and the work it will require to put it back to stock.

Re: Craigslist truck- I don't know if I can see past those tail lights!

GREAT replies! Thank you!

To clear up any confusion, the truck is restored. It is not a project. Those collage pictures in the ad are to show the process, I guess.

Walking around the truck, I didn't notice anything that looked funky except for the tail lights. It really is a sharp truck.

I'll sleep on it and may call the guy. A closer inspection would sway my decision one way or another.

They aren't the prettiest tail lights that I have seen but I think if the paint and body work are perfect as well as a nice clean/restored interior... It's worth the asking price to me. Sure try and get it for $10-$11k though.

If I wanted that truck those tail lights would not stop me, they would not have been my first choice but I have seen worse thats for sure.

Re: Craigslist truck- I don't know if I can see past those tail lights!

I just emailed him for more pictures.

If I could find a way to at least get rid of the chrome trim pieces around the lights, I think that would mute them a bit. Or find a way to mount them just behind the fender. Anything to get them to blend in better.

Re: Craigslist truck- I don't know if I can see past those tail lights!

Just remember, ANYONE can enter their truck in a show.

That means NOTHING in itself when it comes to the quality of the restoration. the guy did it in his garage.

Definitely worth a closer look, in person as pictures can't show everything!

Indeed. I checked it out at the show so I got to at least inspect it as close as one can without touching. It looks great in person. But as everyone knows better than I, it could be a bad restoration under the shiny paint. All the metal on it was very straight, didn't notice any wavyness to any panels. As soon as I talk to the guy I'll be able to assess his restoration experience.

Absolutely nothing!

When you pay a restoration shop, you are paying for (in theory) experienced professionals who know how to so the job right.

Joe Garage may not know how, but screw things up even with the best of intentions. Point is...it's going to be your problem once the papers are signed, make sure you know what you're getting into!

I would look for other issues first.
Can get tail light delete quote from picture and deduct from your offer.
Find out primer used, paint code, number of coats and clear coat used if buying.

Then spend that money on pizza as you get used to the tail lights

See if he has any paint left over from the restoration. Then paint the chrome trim rings on the tail lights to match the body color. Now they don't look too bad. Matter of fact, I'm starting to like them. Call me crazy.

Looking better already.
Maybe another tail light like Jeep could be fit.

Hey that's a hair better! I'd even go a step further and round off the corners of the light with the body colored paint to take the harsh rectangle shape out of them.
