donor truck year compatibilty

I have recently bought a project truck that is missing quite a few parts.

I was thinking of buying a donor truck and just taking the parts from it.

I honestly dont know what I have.
I know I have a 70 cab with a 67 front clip.
I also am pretty sure its a long bed(missing bed)
I bought it off a member here and he hasn't responded to my emails or texts
asking for clarification. I have searched his posts and it looks like it could
either be a 67 or 68 c10 or c20. The front and rear ends both have been updated to 5 lug and it has airbags.

My question is, Can I buy any 67-72 longbed c10 or c20 and use the parts
interchangeably?

thanks,
John

It depends on what you want to make the truck into. Beds 67-72 are all interchangeable, you can bolt any front clip onto any cab but there are slight differences between the cabs throughout the years. Chevy fenders are the same 67-68 and 69-72 but GMC is different. If you have the vin you should be able to run it to see what year the truck is. I would do that and then go from there. Also if it has a glovebox door that matches the vin in the door jamb that should help a lot. Hope this helps

I basically need the bed ,windows, brake lines, fuel lines, hood hinges, windshield ,
possibly the core Support .

Are those interchangeable?

Yes, all of those should be fine. I believe the core supports changed from 67-68 to 69-72 but I could be wrong. A good way to check compatibility is look in a parts catalog like LMC and see how they divide parts by the years.

LMC's catalog is pretty good for a reference. We use it often when assembling trucks from different donors.

The core support for the 67-68 trucks are different than 70-72. The fenders for Chevy 67-68 are the same, except the 67 does not have side markers. The a '67 bed will fit 67-72 trucks but does not have side markers.

My son has a '71 lwb truck with a '67 front clip and bed.

I have disc brakes in the front and drum in back.
Can I use the original brake lines?

Re: donor truck year compatibilty

I am getting conflicting information.
I have a truck and car shop catalog that shows 67-68 match pretty much everything.
But the LMC online catalog shows matching part numbers for 67 and then 68-69.

Re: donor truck year compatibilty

You are in the same situation as many of us. The '67 swb stepper that we built has parts from at least 7 different years of trucks, so if I need to buy a part I have to remember what year that part came from.

Often it is best to take a part to the store if you are getting a new one to match it.

O'Rielly Auto Parts website has a compatability section on parts that helps tell what parts will fit what vehicles.

If you post a picture of what part you have on here many people are able to tell you what year and vehicle it came from.

Re: donor truck year compatibilty

Are you referring to the front fenders? 67 and 68 fenders are the same with the exception of the marker light. You said your truck is a 70 which means you could use front fenders from 69-72 and they will all work with either a 69-70 grill or a 71-2 grill. As far as the brake lines, I'm not sure the differences but I do know that 71-2 trucks had disc front drum rear. I would say if you could find a nice 71-2 lwb truck for a parts truck you'd be in the clear.
