What is this light for?
I took my dash cluster out today to disassemble it, clean it and work on getting my temp gauge to work. I had to unplug a odd wire from the odd connected for a light. What is it?

not for sure but under my gas gauge, I have a BRAKE and a TEMP. Could that be it?

Re: What is this light for?
That is for the fiber optic cable to light up the shift indicator on the steering column.

Re: What is this light for?
It is a great feeling when ALL the lights work. I discovered mine because the light in the dash was burned out and it was the same one for the optic cable. When I replaced it, the shift indicator also worked.

Re: What is this light for?
Thanks Tbone!
I was wondering if that was for that optic cable. The cable is there, but I think the bulb is out, the shift indicator wasn't lit up at all. That cable can't really transfer a whole lot of light anyway can it? I will take that apart and clean it as well. Seems like I read about a led mod you can do for that. While cleaning and painting inside the dash area with the cluster out, I made an ugly discovery of my wiper motor barely hanging in there. The area around it is severely rusted and you can see out into the cowl area. I'm not looking forward to this repair project.

Re: What is this light for?
One thing to make sure of is that the optic cable is not kinked or has any hard bends in it. That will break the flow of light to the shift indicator. I know they make brighter dash light bulbs also. Not sure of the part number.
Good luck with the cowl area. That is a tough spot to repair. |

Re: What is this light for?
A couple months ago I swapped most of my regular 194 bulbs for the 168's which are much brighter. I didn't pick up enough bulbs to do them all. I need to go grab a few more now that I have the cluster out and its much easier to install bulbs.
