Need to install a temp exhaust to get to the muffler shop. Suggestions?
I have been woriking on replacing the big block Olds from my truck. I finally wussed out and bought a tame 350. I need to get some kind of exhaust in the truck to drive it to a muffler shop OR just get the pipes from the exhaust manifolds that will go past the cab to slide some kind of muffler on so I can drive the truck.
Is there some place that sells pipes that go from manifold back? I looked at NAPA and AutoZone but didn't see what I was looking for.

Re: Need to install a temp exhaust to get to the muffler shop. Suggestions?
A couple years ago, I put some hooker longtubes on my 01 silverado at home. Then drove to the muffler shop open headers. It was about a 10 mile drive, about half highway and half city streets. I passed a highway patrol that was parked on the side of the highway, I just let off the gas and coasted by. It's only extremely loud when you throttle.

No idea here, but be glad you have a decent exhaust shop close enough to drive to. My last engine was in the 4wd slot and new one is in the 2wd and the local shop wanted $250 just to run from 1st weld under the firewall to the manifolds.

hahahaha forgiveness isn't the issue. I just don't want to drive with open manifolds.... FLAMES shoot out those things and catch cabling on fire.
Thanks for the chuckle.

Got AAA or a friend with it? OR pick your shop and tell them the issue, they might send a rollback to get the business if they have one.

For what it would cost to mock something up for a temp fix you could just rent a uhaul trailer.

Autozone sells flexible steel exhaust tubing. You could get some muffler clamps and bolt the tubing to the exhaust manifolds. If you already have the mufflers, bolt those to the flexible tubing, wire it up to the frame and go.
It'll have plenty of exhaust leaks, but it'll be quieter than an open exhaust. |
