i believe there were only 2 options:
235 straight 6. newly introduced 283 v8. not sure if they still offered the 265 v8 for 58,59.

GMC The right information? OK !
I believe our friend here deserves the right information if we know it or can find it for him/her. Don't you all agree? After all we are here to help one another and I personally have been helped a lot by being a member of this discussion board.
Here is a site for the GMC "Truck Nuts" like me! Although I have a Hienz 57 of a truck (1/2 GMC and Half Chevy) Ha Ha! Even my MI license plate reads "57 HEINZ" ![]() http://www.1955gmc.com/index.html Quoted from this site: "GMC used different running gear than the Chevy trucks and the interiors were different. The 6 cyl motors were GMC and the V8 motors were Pontiac design Pontiac has always had a relationship with GMC, and in 1955 the new Pontiac V8 motor was shared with them. A 288 cubic inch motor was used in the trucks and 1955 is the start a long run with this motor for Pontiac. (Also GMC) truck(s) came from the factory with a 288 coupled to a four speed Hydra-Matic transmission"(or manual three speeds) Words in parens are added and are mine...rico. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
