So here is the start of cutting up the donor roof.
This is the underneath of the top roof I cut out.. Look at all that rust. This piece is going to the scraper. This is how I plan to put the roof one the cab. I need to grind down some of these spot welded seems and get it all ready to be added to the cab. Its going to be a long journey but I thinkthis is the simplest way to do this. everything will be a spot weld seem to hold this one besides right below the window. This is the rust that was above the front windsheild on the donor cab.. I only post this pic for people that might have this issue in their truck. I am scraping this piece from the donor cab. Here is the back window from the donor cab ready. besides making my cut straighter below the window. I cut this area a little long due to the fact this will be a weld and the line up from this roof to my cab needs to be perfect. I want to get my cab ready before I make the final cut on this one. Here is the inside close to being ready.. I still have to grind some of the pinch weld seams so they are ready to graph onto my cab. Look at all this rust on the underneath of this roof. I will need to treat this with something as well as the inner roof on my cab.. I heard viniger and water works well to neutralize rust so it will probably be a wire brush followed by alot of vinegar then follow but a rust controling paint. Also tools used- drill with spot weld bit, air chisel, angle grinder with cut off wheel and sawzall. Get ready for ton of spot welds to drill out.

Brian, I have a gallon of Gem Rust Killer that will work great to neutralize the surface rust. If you plan to squirt any epoxy primer, the rust killer will need some additional prep, but if primer isn't part of the plan, you're good to go. Stop by when you get the chance and I'll load you up. Vic

Thanks Vic. I am still trying figuring out what to do for
Primer or Paint on the inside I feel I need to do something in there. I will swing by sometime soon thank you for helping me out. I am also thinking that I might actually use my mig welder instead of borrowing your welder for the roof to drip Rail seam. Since I had to drill so many holes to get the roof off I figure I can weld and then grind smooth then seam sealer to make it look pretty. Posted via Mobile Device

Looks like a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end. As for paint POR-15 works pretty good and you don't have to be too concerned with the surface prep. It does suck to weld anywhere near that stuff though.

This is a very time consuming thing.. It is coming around though. I have the inner and outer window metal seperated and the inner rear window mocked up hanging in the cab. The hardest part of this who thing is going to be the seem on the outside below the rear window. Vic actually has a good idea of using a 90 degree piece of metal that will keep the two pieces stiff and give me some backing to weld to. The more I ponder this and how to piece it all together I believe this to be the best solution. I hope to have most of the pieces aligned mocked up and prepped by the end of the week. Then I will start working on how to do the 90 degree. I will post some pics today or tomorrow.

One thing I realized that is odd about my original 67 cab is that the inner roof passenger side does not have the hole for the visor on the interior. The backing is there but never was drilled Is this normal or did the factory forget to drill it?

So I pulled the cover off the rear end today.. It looks like i have a GOV lock in there. It also has a few chucks missing from the gear.. I heard these are not all that great and blow up easy. Any suggestions?

I picked up an Auburn posi off of eBay fairly reasonable so I have a leftover gov-bomb in great condition. You can have it if you just want something that isn't torn up. I think they're actually pretty decent units. Most of them explode due to abuse. If your plans include power adders, lotsa grunt and tire smoking videos, it's probably not a good choice.

Well, that would certainly be a good choice. I think I have a 9" housing and chunk we could build. As I recall, housing is out of a Lincoln so we can set it up for whatever track width you need. It doesn't have any ends on it, so you could pick whatever you wanted to match your rear brake package. Also, since you're going Porterbuilt, I'm sure you'll end up with four link brackets or something similar. End result would be extremely stout for a tenth of the cost of a Currie, Moser, Mark Williams or etc. Biggest expense would be the axles. Keep it in mind if you decide to go that route.

Okay fella's well I have some good news.. The big back glass is coming together really well. I had some good help from Vic1947. He is really helping me learn and gain the knowledge needed to make this project what I want it to be.. I am really excited of the stuff I have learned from him already. He even let me borrow his Miller spot welder.. I believe I will purchasing one of these is in my near future. ITS AWESOME!!! He also made me a nice stiffing piece for the back glass. He brought over his shrinker and stretcher to help form it. These tools are also going to be in my list to get.
I am going to pick up my dynamat today that I will be placing inside the roof. Here are the pictures. FINAL CUT MADE TO REAR Front seam above front windsheild. Cut came out about right.

Here are the pictures of the stiffening plate Vic made for me. The thought was to make this sit 50/50 between the cut to have a backing to weld to and also keep the two panels stright. It is pretty flimsy when you cut out the window so I was worried about it being waving.
Now i need to clean the rust in between the two sides and get it primed and dynamat down. Then off to prepping for welding in place.

Great job! I wouldn't a bit that off, but I'm a small window fan. Fitup looks pretty good for as far as you had to go, that's tough and it always moves. Do yourself a favor and get that ESAB easy grind wire. Been trying it out this week and I'm a fan! Keep it up!

That's weird, when first we met, you looked nothing like a window fan.
I ordered some yesterday from weldingsupply.com however, they only had the 2 lb. spool in .030 wire. I'm currently using .023 ER70 wire so this will let me learn about the larger wire and the grinding properties as well. As you mentioned in another post, Amazon has both sizes in stock. Slightly more expensive but available, nonetheless.
