Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
LOL I made it all winter without getting a cold and now I've had some sort of a bug twice in the last month. This one's not bad at all. Mostly I'm just feeling lazy, I guess. Hopefully I'll get back on Mustard this weekend, although I'm thinking between Blue Bell and the "new" trailer I might have my hands full with them.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
Well, I made the 3 hour or so round trip to pick up the trailer, and it went uneventfully other than the door to the living quarters part of the trailer pops open from time to time and the tail lights don't work (got home before dark anyway). I will have to get the tail lights figured out soon. The truck wiring portion of the plug worked, so I think the issue is in the trailer. We'll see.
Also sent my Chevelle tank that I was for whatever reason thinking was going to work for Mustard back today. It cost me about $120 to send it back along with the sending unit. Pretty expensive mistake. For those that just joined in, the '70 Chevelle tank doesn't work with the leaf spring frame. It also doesn't work with coil springs if they have the auxilliary leaf spring setup. Seriously considering the 85 Blazer tank like MJenson is using. I just have to double check (novel idea ![]()

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
I've read not so great things about that one from LMC. It is basically a replacement tank for a Blazer/Suburban from this vintage, but requires modifying one of the bed floor support ribs to fit. Plus, they are apparently unbaffled, so the gas could slosh around and, under certain conditions, cause the sending unit suction line to not be submerged (???).
The '85 Blazer tank is also significantly larger and appears to be mountable so that you don't have to modify the bed floor rib. Although, I suppose you could just mount the LMC version lower and maybe do the same thing. Haven't researched that yet. By the way, I was working on trailer/truck lights today out in the driveway and it was blowing, cold, and snowy again. ![]()

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
Let me know if you need any measurements on this tank. I think it's going to work out well. I'm going to have to look inside, but I don't think it's baffled either. The next thing I'm going to have to consider is the tank ventilation system. My original vented inside the cab...I don't think I want that setup again

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
I really don't know how critical the baffling is. It's just something I read about the LMC Blazer tanks and it seemed to make sense that a baffle would be better than no baffle.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
I double-checked my tank, and it doesn't have the baffle in it. I'm not sure if the factory tank had them either, but for my truck I'm thinking it will be fine. It is a lifted 4wd so speed really won't be an option

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
I suppose if the gas got to sloshing around while you are bouncing down a trail it might be a concern, but I agree, that whole baffle idea must be for the guys making serious power that can make the gas all run to the back of the tank for more than a second or two. I'm usually baffled enough, anyways, I don't need the gas tank to be baffled, too.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
Mustard hasn't had a canister since I've owned it (1986). That's basically an emissions piece, and I don't think they got put on trucks (or at least maybe the 3/4 ton and up???) by 1972.
I don't remember seeing your sending unit on your build thread. Does it have a separate vent line? I had a '69 LeSabre that just had rubber hose attached to the sending unit vent and just ran to the front of the tank behind the rear axle. I don't know if that was original or not, but that car was pretty much bone stock when I got it, and there was no sign of any charcoal canister under the hood. It also had the rear license plate fill location, which I would imagine makes venting through the cap not an option.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
Cool. That guy sure knows his stuff, doesn't he? He's a good writer, too.
I don't think my system will be that complex, as I'm not planning on the charcoal canister route, but it's good information nonetheless.

Might as well high jack the thread, as I haven't done anything worth posting anyway.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
It wasn't knee deep. In fact, I broke the seal and was the first one in the neighborhood to mow this year.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
Haven't heard anything from you in a few days. How is it up there in the north. Did you do anything to the old girl lately. I have dne nothing just trying to play catch up around the house. I have let a lot of things slide lately. But, I did get a real nice set of wing windows and a few other things the other day. I posted some pictures on my page.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"
I haven't done anything worth posting on here, either. I commented on your wing windows, though.
I was starting to wonder about the bed rail. Not that I need it yet, but was figuring maybe it got lost somewhere in transit, so it's good to know that you haven't sent it yet. I've been getting what I calculate out to be 12-13 mpg with the 87 4x4 pulling a good sized horse trailer ![]()
