Power steering pump bracket question???please help
hey guys, looking for some help from you guys. I recently took a 350 outta a 72 c-10 2wd longbed, to put into my 68 c-10 2wd longbed. problem i ran into last night after getting it all put in, is that they have a whole differant power steering setup. And it looks like i need a bracket for a 68 power steering pump to mount the pump to the engine block. I was looking through some of my catalogs for one, and didn't see any in the year one, seen a power steering pump bracket in early classic enterprises, but it said 67-72, so i'm iffy about that one, plus it costs 59 bucks. i also checked the chevy duty catalog, but only found rebuilt power steering pumps and boxes, no brackets, so if anyone knows where i can get a bracket, i don't know what it even looks like so that's the frustrating part, cus the 72 one definately isn't right. thank you very much, in advance.

if you are talking about the setup outta the 68, no, I don't have it, when i bought the 68, it didn't have a motor, so it didn't have any pulleys or brackets or anything. I have 2 67's and 1 68 and none of them had motors in them when i bought them, and the 2 67's still don't, but i'm dropping the 350 in the 68, because it's the closest to being done as of right now, the 67's are projects.

If you removed the engine complete with all of the brackets, pullies and such in tact, I would think it should work, because it was working in the 72 you pulled it from. Are you shure that it was an origanal motor in the 72? As I remember there isn't any difference in where the power steering pumps mount from 67-72. The brackets for 67 through 70 look different, but they mount the same as the 71-72s. It is the pully configuration that is different. i'll have to go take a closer look at it today, i don't know if it's the original engine outta the 72 or not.

I have a 68 and mines mounted to the driver side exhaust manifold. Looks like a L bracket.

Sure, I can see there bieng differences in the bracket, but if you use the whole 72 setup, pulleys, brackets, pump and all it should work.
Just screw the 72 hose into the 68 box.

That's funny.
That is my picture taken in my garage on the famous green garage stool. I took the picture and labeled it to show someone here how it bolted on. I sold it to Linus on the board here. If I'd have known it was going to become famous, I'd have kept it and put it on my mantle. The power of the green stool.

these are the brackets i got, the 2 in the middle are the brackets i have for the p/s brackets. they look quite differant then the one you say is the right one, that may be the problem eh?

I don't know what the 2 brackets on the outside are for, they were in the back of the truck when i bought it.

The far left bracket is your alternator swing arm.The far right one looks like the power steering bracket that bolts to the motor mount.Hope this helps a little. Mine is a one peice(Like the one in the now infamous picture )

Not trying to steal a thread here but this brings up a concern for me. I am having headers put on in the next week or so and currently my bracket is attached to the exhaust manifold. HMM may have to get out the headers and see where that sucker is going to bolt to. Anyone have headers with power steering attached to them?

While this is not the correct for 67-72 trucks, it is a common placement for the steering pump...esp if you have the later model long water pump. Nothing but a short section of pipe and the manifold pipe. |

I was going to post the Alan Grove link. I bought the streeing pump bracket, but didn't need to use it. I have the alternator bracket and it's very heavy duty.

I just had the same problem. The balancer on the new engine is larger and won't work with the 68 brackets. I had to search and finally bought brackets and pulleys from a 76 pickup at the junkyard. If I were to do it again, I'd get the $59 bracket and move on with my life. There are several different brackets out there, and they are not all interchangable.

i need to fix mine with the setup like longhorn man has. how did you do it? just bend a piece of steel like an L and bolt it to the bracket and then get some metal pipe and a long bolt?
