Aftermarket steering column

Don't know if many of you are buying/using the aftermarket tilt columns. Watch out for the low cost Chinese columns as they have been found to be very dangerous. They name the larger importers of these junk columns.
If it isn't a Flaming River, Ididit, or Billet Specialties it's most likely junk.
This article is from New Zealand where they inspect these things unlike here in the US.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

Wow!

To think I almost cheaped out and bought the CPP column shown in the report.

Money is no object when it involves steering columns.

Just my $0.02

Re: Aftermarket steering column

I read the whole report, that was very interesting! They completely dismantled and inspected many of the columns used and sold here in the US, and find that, Chinese is junk! I have heard the warnings about the China columns, now I know why.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

I just installed a column in a 50 Olds that he bought and brought me. I'm getting him to bring it back so I can check it out. This is scary, not good!!! Thanks for posting this info!

That plastic donut for steering your car doesn't look like a good idea at all.

Sure makes you wonder.......I guess thats why it takes so long to receive an order, they're waiting for the slow boat from China to arrive

I'm one of the suckers that bought this POS from them and my emails to them complaining of poor fit and quality went unanswered. They know about it, I can't be the only one that complained about it

I hope the word can get out to everyone. I also hope that there will be no injuries/deaths associated with these columns...

I would call them for a full refund. If they give you greif, mention that the DOT is getting the next phone call.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

As soon as this New Zealand article got out CPP blasted their Ebay store with many ads of these columns for sale, They're going as cheap as $169 for a chrome tilt! Don't you think buyers would know better? People buying this almost deserve to have it fail, almost.
