DIY step notch ... need help

So i was looking at doing a step notch on a 60 apache and thinking ... hey i could do this myself . And i saw a company selling 3/16 thick steel tube pre bent . Im wondering if this would work versus the common square ones they sell . I would think the pre bent steel would be better versus the ones you have to weld together.

The round tube shown will not be strong enough. The plate style notch is the way to go. You could also look into making a notch out of 2x4 rectangular tubing.... it's another option.

With the 60-62 frame being different than all the rest, it might take some good planning to build your own so it fits the frame properly.

Yeah that's the problem with the early frame . I was planning on putting 2 tubes side by side and then a solid tube from notch to notch for strength like the trophy trucks or offroad style . Just wondering if anyone has done it like this .

If you design it properly with the round tube you can make it plenty strong.... (no harm intended by this comment) but most guys who know how to do it properly with the round tube wouldn't be asking about it on a forum.

Post up some pics of your intended design and I am sure you will get some feedback.

No harm no foul . I am in no way a fabricator . Where I live its tough to find welders who don't want to take on the liability of something happening withe their work . And I was trying to think of ways to do it onbthe 60-62 frame and I thought the less corners it has the less welding and maybe stronger .

I'm sure Nate knows someone near that area that he could recommend. He had a great recommendation in my area and I am going to drop my truck off next month.

Not sure how you would attach the round tubing to the existing frame rails without a ton of work. The plate style notch wraps around the entire frame rail and grabs onto it from all sides. Strength is key.
