Anyone recognize this color?

I am not sure it is a factory color, but it looks like it might be. I was dealt a blow earlier this week by my painter when I went to tell him my Blazer would be ready in 1 week. He told me the material cost would be VERY expensive, prompting me to go back to the drawing board and look for an alternative. I found the guy that owns the truck I have attached, but he said he bought it when it was already painted and did not know the code. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Greg

If it's factory 1971 copper the code is 522 and the white would be a code 521

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

It was a popular color used 70-72 by Chevrolet on trucks both solid and two-toned. As stated it is GM code 522 or Ditzler code 2202.

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

I have found quite a few trucks on this site that are called copper and they do not seem to be the right color. They seem like they have too much orange in them. I found one guy that said it is a medium bronze. Any chance he is right? Here is another color of the same truck with a different amount of sun hitting the hood and such.

Thanks a ton guys! This is very helpful. I am only a week away from going to the paint shop.

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

I seem to remember my old Suburban had "Med Bronze" on the SPID. We nicknamed the truck "the bronze beast"

The paint code books call the color "copper"

The name is not important, the code is what matters

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

Don't confuse GM copper with that Copperhead truck. The former should not look like the latter, because the latter was a custom color.

It used to be very hard to get a real copper look. Even the C6 Corvette I think they cancelled copper for a while because they had trouble spraying it consistently. So I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that an old "copper" color code was a lot more orange than anything else.

Just my opinion... never owned a copper truck!

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

Copper Poly is the trade name and Med Bronze is a sales name. Code is everything. Matching another vehicle is always a problem. The only true way to match it is to have it color matched. Even just converting to a BCCC will affect how the paint looks, even more so with metallics IMHO.

Here is a 522 truck at various angles.

Re: Anyone recognize this color?

yup, medium bronze code 522. I have tried PaintScratch and my local auto paint store--with limited success using their take on the 522 code. They both had the color too brassy and not dark enough to match the original. Ok for small touch up, firewall, but not for the body.

The paint code is the same for 70, 71 and 72 but it is listed as either copper or copper Poly

An older thread on paint colors showing several years worth of chip pages.
