Seats.. what are you using

I do not have the original seats that came in my burb. That being said I would much rather run with a newer style seat. Looking for front and rear seat (not third row) that would be relatively simple for a seat guy to reupholster.

So what are you guys using?

Re: Seats.. what are you using

Sorry not much help.
Just dropped the 66 bench seat off today for repair.
Cost $325.
Matched the Dupont colors as close as I could.
The Dupont pattern apparently no longer available.
Chose the stronger single stitch seems like OEM.
Seat will have 2.5" rolls (10"-20" style) where Dupont pattern was.
Springs and foam to be repaired/replaced.

Re: Seats.. what are you using

You are using the bench seat out of a truck of the same yearI take it? That being said it probably doesnt fold up for access to the rear?

Re: Seats.. what are you using

I'm keeping the factory 1966 folding bench seat in GMC 1966 1/2 ton pu truck. Don't know what years have folding bench seats.

Considered a swap but no where to store seat and couldn't bear to dispose of it. The seat was comfy enough to make a few TN to FL trips back in the day.

Don't know bout the burb. Just added 2 cents about 66 seat.

Look for some early 2000 Ford truck seats with built in seat belts- Kills 2 birds with one stone. Some of them came with a separate center section so you can have the bench seat look if you want. I got mine in leather and didn't have to reupholster. Bolt and go.

What did you use for a rear seat (if you are using one) to match?

Re: Seats.. what are you using

I still have the original style seats in my Suburban, but I have considered using bucket seats out of a K5 Blazer. Those have a little different style of flip forward mechanism for the passenger seat. Of course the Blazers had center consoles available also. Also I'm thinking that the Blazer rear seat may work for a 2nd seat in a Suburban.

Re: Seats.. what are you using

In my '48 I used two of the center sections that fold down to make a console as 2nd row seats. In the '64 we used the original 3rd row seat because the 2nd row seat had really bad upholstery. If you want to match 2 buckets will fit as a second row with about 3" space in between. We've had all three original seats in the '64- 1st and 3rd row- 1st and 3rd row moved up to 2nd row. Mom insists on the 1st row buckets for the head rest and shoulder belts and honestly they are pretty comfortable and roomy. My son likes the 3rd row out so he can put surfboards and stuff in the back.

I redid my stock seats , all 3 rows and they sucked. No easy way to do safe seat belts and very uncomfortable on long journeys.

My 02 silverado extra cab has these seats in them, they flip forward for rear access. The rears are 3rd seats from a Yukon or Tahoe.

how did you mount the rear seats? I have the third row but need to hunt down one more to match. also I have fronts out of an 02 suburban....I wonder if I can just find that passenger seat mount to have it fold forward?

I bought the stock tie downs and fabbed plates up to bolt top and bottom of floor. The fronts seats have a claw and they wrap around a 3/8 bar so I fabbed up a mount with bars to mimic stock. They sit about 3/4" high on floor but with a wood floor you are kind of limited.

Thanks for the info. I have the floor mounts so I'm set with the back, just need to find a folding bracket for the passenger side and I can fab up the rest.

Yeah its funny when you throw a number out and people think your crazy, but go find a rust free burb for 7-10k, do the body and paint for 10K, drivetrain for 5k, vintage air, air ride, 4 wheel disc, wheels and tires, interior etc, no way you can do it for under 40K.

People who've undertaken a restoration probably don't think it's crazy.

LT1, the fronts flip fwd on your front seats? Can you take a pic of them flipped forward? I have '00 Silverado fronts and I can move them fwd enough to squeeze in the back, not ideal. Tell me more on these. I thought I was limited to looking for a 2-door Yukon or equivalent to get one that flips...
I have a 00 Silverado, so love the seats in it.
Thx.

Re: Seats.. what are you using

Is the stock frame from an older c10 or from a newer 00-02 Silverado like LT1burb? I'm looking for the newer frame passenger seat for my 02 leather seats that fold forward

LT1, or do you mean the back of the seat flips forward, not the whole thing?
