Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
I have a door jamb pillar vent in my 1970 K10. I'm wondering if this is wrong and maybe something was changed. From the threads I've read, it looks like the pillar vents began in 1971. My truck is a stock '70 K10 with factory air, power steering and power brakes. Assembly plant was Tarrytown. If anyone has any insight on this I would appreciate hearing from you.

What kind of rivets are holding the vin tag on?

Look like the right Rosette rivets.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
One time I saw a cab that was supposed to be a '69 with a pillar vent. A guy had cut out a piece of the pillar with the '69 vin tag on it and welded it into the '71 cab pillar. He did such a good job it looked original.

OK, here is a picture of the driver side door jamb showing the VIN tag and the vent. Anyone have any input or ideas. I forgot to mention that the ID# matches the VIN# on the frame.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
Well I cannot speak for all trucks, but every door jamb vent I've seen on 71/72's have been more centered on the door jamb, and yours looks pretty close to that outer edge. My first thought was that someone added the vent...but who knows. The truck has obviously been repainted since the door striker is the body color rather than black, so maybe someone fabbed in the vent and relocated the vin tag when the truck was painted...

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
Now I need to look at my 72 and see where it is. Your vin tag looks to be in the right location but I agree that the vent looks off center some.
How do your doors shut and do you have aftermarket door seals? I am wondering if the vents help because that is what they are suppose to do. Vent cab pressure when closing the doors with the windows up. |

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
Vent looks to be in the correct position and the rivets' also appear to be the correct 6 hump rosettes. Is your truck is a very late 70? Wonder if the plant that built yours ran out of 70 cabs at the end of production and used a 71?

I'm not sure how I would know if it was a late model 1970 or not. Based on the VIN it looks like it might be number 6,473 built during that year. There were only 2,554 K10 SWB trucks built in 1970. Who knows though where it falls in the time frame of total production?

Beautiful truck
I do have to say that the vent DOES look too close to the outer edge.

My original 71 Cab didn't have this vent, but who knows it may have been a swap at some point.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
Thanks Andy. Now I'm curious about the location of the stock pillar vents. If anyone has pictures, maybe you could post them so I could see what they look like. I'm kind of thinking that maybe this vent was added on. Not sure.

I REALLY like those wheels. Are they the 15x8 CUCV Blazer wheels? I have stock 6.5" wheels on my K/10, and they look to tall and skinny. |

That looks just like mine does. Hmmm! Maybe mine is correct. Weird on a '70.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?
Vent and VIN location are correct, as stated maybe they used a 71 cab. 70 VIN should be smaller with a separate data plate. I would not be alarmed.

Nice truck. Is there a slightly raised pad where the rear view mirror mounts?

Slightly raised pad? Rear view mirror inside the cab? What is the significance?

Depending on the year of your truck the mirror will be on a raised pad on the roof, or mounted to the windshield.
