Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?

67-72 had a small hump where the rear view mirror mounted to, 72 had the hump eliminated as the mirror was glued to the windshield starting that year.

If it is slightly raised where the mirror mounts on the roof it is a 71 cab. That was the only year that did that. So if it is there with the vent i would say it is a 71 cab.

Yes too much stuff is correct, '71 was the only year cab with the raised pad for the mirror.

Here are some pictures of my mirror mounting. So based on these pictures does this mean it is a '71 cab?

There isn't a raised pad for the rear mirror mount so I'd say no it is not a 71 cab.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?

So if this is not a '71 cab, it must be a '70 cab. Now are there any documented versions of '70 trucks that had the door pillar vents? Anyone know?

I have only seen them in 71-72 cabs. It is probably fairly easy to cut in.
Do you have a cable or rod for the throttle hookup? Gas pedal attached to the floor?

Probably is easy to cut in. I have cable throttle linkage, with gas pedal NOT attached to floor. My '69 has the ball studs on the floor for mounting the gas pedal.

Interesting... a 70 cab would also have the studs on the floor with a solid rod for the throttle. Possiby a 72 cab? If you have the carpet up, look for any trace there were the 2 studs attached to the floor.

Looked and didn't see any signs of ball studs for a 70 gas pedal. Hmm.... Maybe '72 cab. Now I'm puzzled. This is crazy. So someone would have had to replace cab and reinstall VIN with rosette style rivets? What other differences would there be that I could look for?

The rosettes are hard, very hard, but not impossible to get. 15-20 years ago they were plentiful.

Any evidence the VIN was added by carving it out of a 70 cab with a surrounding donor patch of pillar sheet metal that was welded in place?

There is no evidence suggesting that the VIN was changed or patch of the pillar installed (at least that I can tell).

This is interesting... I just bought a 1969 c10 that has pillar vents. I wonder what's going on with that.

Was there ever a final thought on this, really nice truck though. From my experience, to ID a 72 Cab: the is the vent on door pillar, no raised rear-view mirror pad, dimple/screw under vent window on doors, gas pedal set up / holes are drilled in different location for the older rod acceerator. Last, 1972 had a vented gas tank (vapor canister up front). The gas cap was different on a 1970 than that a 1972. Hope Im not waking this up in a bad way.

Re: Is the door jamb pillar vent incorrect in my '70 K10?

I believe that new rosettes can be gotten from the CHP, in California. I don't know what NY does, though. I have a friend who rebodied a car, as the original sheet metal was too bad off. He was told by the CHP to bring both cars in to be inspected, along with the proof of ownership, and they would transfer the VIN to the better vehicle. This process has been used by body shops to "back-half" a vehicle that has been rear-ended badly enough to require all that sheet metal be replaced. If that truck was wrecked, (rolled over) it is a known thing to replace the cab and then swap the VIN from the old vehicle. This requires prior permission from law enforcement; otherwise, it is fraud.

Yes there was a final thought on this... I believe my cab was changed out with a 72 cab. However it was done very thoroughly. I have a properly mounted rear view mirror (not on windshield). Also no raised mirror hump, so it's not a 71 cab. I don't have the vent window screws on the doors, so either the doors were swapped with the proper ones, or the screw holes filled. My truck also has the proper tall bench seat riser, where 71 & 72 have short curved rear seat riser, so the proper seat was installed. No vapor canister up front or vented gas tank. The only things I could find to indicate it's a 72 cab are the pillar vent and throttle cable. In the end I don't mind. It's all good, so don't feel you're waking this in a bad way.
