coolant bypass hose from water pump 454v8

My brother was driving his 87 445v8 the other day 300 miles to my house and the bypass hose off the water pump blew. well he replaced the hose and on his way home he noticed it was running kinda hot when he pulled the hills so he pulled over and discovered the new bypass hose was collapsing.

Is this air in system, or a bad hose he got from the auto store? What could cause this.

best way to get air out of system?

Re: coolant bypass hose from water pump 454v8

On my 83 454 I used a preformed short hose which is the one for that location. It is thicker and molded into the proper shape. I think I got mine from one of the Corvette vendors (Central Corvette, Eckler's ??). I also had to get the correctly bent nipples to make the hoses like up correctly - also from a Corvette vendor. I can't seem to find the post I did about 2 years ago on this forum, but I had pics of the proper nipples and hose.

I just replaced the one on our C30 as the straight hose would kink.
Used a GATES 19670 hose and trimmed it.
