Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

So I'm doing a 6 lug disc/power steering conversion for one of my parent's neighbors with a 64 c10. I have all the parts needed, but I noticed that the shaft on the lower control arms is a lot larger than the ones for the stock 64 arms.

Do I need to go back to the junk yard and figure some way to get the rivited on "perches" off the vehicle I pulled the LCA from, or is there some other way to do this? IIRC the vehicle was a late 80's under 7200# gvw 3/4 ton van.

Re: Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

So I assume that you are doing the 6 lug front disc conversion using factory parts?

If the LCA you got was from the same donor you got the spindles and rotors from, that is the problem. You can not use that newer LCA. You need a LCA from a '67-'87 C20. Those will have the same size control arm shafts as your '64 C10.

Re: Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

Yes we are using factory parts.

The spindles and rotors came from a 73-87 truck. The LCA was from a 3/4 ton van in the same year range.

So find any 67-87 c20, and those should work?

Re: Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

The '73-'87 C series trucks did not come with 6 lugs. Only the '88+ light duty C2500's came from the factory with 6 lugs in a 2wd version. Changing to the C20 LCA's is necessary to use the '88+ light duty C2500 spindles and rotors. If you are going to use the '73-'87 spindles, you do not need to use the C20 LCA's. You can either use your original LCA's or change to the '73-'87 LCA's.

Re: Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

Interesting. Thank you for the clarification, cap'n. I'm not familiar with these trucks in the least bit, but bolts are bolts!

I'm just glad I found somewhere where people know a helluva lot more than I do about em.

Re: Front disc 6 lug conversion LCA question

Have you looked through this thread? It is a bit lengthy, but it explains the front disc brake conversion using factory parts in both 5 lug and 6 lug.
