WTB: '71-'72 rear axle
Anyone in central Missouri have a '71 or '72 coil spring 12 bolt rear axle? I need a good one, preferably with 3.73 gears, although 3.07 would be OK. Posi would be great too.
Figured i would try here before searching salvage yards

Hmmmm......dosen't a spool permantly lock both wheels together?
If so....is it easily removed? What kind of price are we talking about? Is it in good working order?

Yes, a spool is locked axles. Not something you'd want in a daily driver. As far as removal...if it just replaces the spiders, it's easily removed. Most spools are the internal kind, that replace the spiders. You don't have to remove the ring carrier from the axle housing, just pull out the spool, and put in the spider assembly, and side gears. If the spiders, and side gears are good in your old one, you have it made...if not then you have to go looking for those parts as well. I'm not sure about the ability to add a factory posi later to a non posi carrier. You may need a different ring carrier to do that. Someone else will know that tho.

Sorry to hear about your axle - I assume by looking to get one now that it won't get you home for Christmas?
Good luck!

I think i will trust the truck to make one last run home.....but i figured i would start looking now and see if i can find a good one at a decent price, then swap it in over the break. I don't need to drive it every day though....i really don't need to go anywhere while at school, and i can ride my bike or hitch a ride from one of my friends if i have to. Maybe i will loose a few pounds, hehe.
