Speedometer help
My speedometer hasn't worked for quite a long time now. I've never really gotten around to fixing it since I don't drive it that often. My question is how do I tell if the cable is bad or if the sender in the transfer case is bad?? Also, how hard is it to change the sending unit in the transfer case?? Does it just come out and switch easily?? Thanks again.

I would unscrew the cable from the back of the dashboard and drive it around a little. You will know right away if the able is bad if it doesn't move or is irratic in movement. Mine was frayed at the end in the trans, and would jump around while driving. I would suspect a frozen or bad cable. The sending unit will pop right out and you can check the cable at that end easily too. If the gear is stripped, take it to the dealer and get a new one. then try again. Shouldn't be too bad.
