Anyone doing a second fuel tank project? Just curious to know what kind of trouble I'm gonna run into.

Subscribing.

You'll have to come up with brackets/straps, and the tank itself.

Probably need to have some discussion relative to how you are going to plumb the new tank in (ie, factory fuel lines vs something homemade).

You won't have a fuel door on the RH side, so you'll need to either graft one in, cut a hole and use a cap (like '79 and earlier) - or - I had always thought I would just install a short filler hose and fill inside the wheel house.

Just figured I'd remove the bed and see what the driver's side looks like. I'll keep it stock, with all stock parts. I frequent the local salvage yard, and they have tons of 73-87's. Whatever I can't salvage I'll see what LMC has. I know I'll have to figure out the tank switch, and how to get it into the dash. I'll post my progress.

Signing up for the show as well. I saw that my bed has the hump for the second tank so that is a huge plus for me

I believe they all do (ie, all beds have a bump on each side in the bed floor to clear the filler hose).

I'm doing the same thing on my 86 K10 except, the PO put a dual tank cab on a shortbox 4x4 single tank frame/box. So, to make it a complete swap-Im going with an aftermarket RH boxside w/aux. tank provision. And, I found a dual tank rusted out truck at the boneyard-that allowed me to pull all the factory fuel lines, wiring, fuel door, filler section, etc. I will need to buy a new tank, sender, and frame brackets. Box is rust free so it wont make sense in my situation to buy a new box.....boxside is all I need.....I'd say if yours is rusty, better to find a good donor truck.
