Re: Road TRIP! Headed west after a 69 GMC

From the pics it looks like it would shine up pretty good leaving the original paint....?

Re: Road TRIP! Headed west after a 69 GMC

I am going to leave it in original paint. I'm just trying to decide what products to use on it. I plan on buffing by hand. I've heard on here that Meguires has a 3 step paint restoration process. Has anyone had any experience using it?? My body man tells me not to use anything with silicone in it because I'll never be able to paint it if I decide to in the future.

I used "Liquid Glass" on a car one time, made it look like, well, like it was wet glass.

Re: Road TRIP! Headed west after a 69 GMC

Man, I thought I just saw that transport with the orange and white truck on it going east on Interstate 40 in Arkansas. I was on my way to Casino in Oklahoma with the wife. did a double take when I saw it go by. Looking back at your pick though, yours didn't have a Benz convertible in the front. Truck looks really nice. Yours I mean.

X2!! Those bed signs are the next best "find" you've had....next to the truck itself, that is. Talk about making it your own! Those things are awesome. You guys are going to have the coolest parts truck in the whole.....well, ever!

Congrats on the uber-successful trip. Sounds like a great time.

Re: Road TRIP! Headed west after a 69 GMC

Thanks guys, I'm really glad I found the bed signs too. It's like bringing back some of my own family history, kind of neat. My grandfather was a Chevy dealer too so we are going on 3 generations now as long as Dad sells me the place eventually! I hope one of my kids will want to work for me some day. My dad saved a lot of old signs and stuff from back in the day so it will be fun going through our warehouse and finding some other cool stuff. I did find a stack of rubber mud flaps that I thought we were completely out of so those will be going on the back as soon as I have time to mount them. They aren't nearly as wide as the flaps that are on the truck now but they say Thielen Motors on them so they are going on it. I'm still trying to figure out why the truck isn't running right. I put new plugs in it last night and that didn't help. I hooked it up to our SUN engine scope and did a cylinder short test and number 6 and number 2 didn't respond when the scope put a load on them. HMM....I swapped wires around and did it again with the same results so I don't know what's going on. I'll do a compression check this afternoon if I have time.

I always loved that Jingle. We kinda stopped using that until my dad blurted it out filming a TV spot. I still like it I think, timeless. We didn't have any time to stop and find more stuff, every thirty minutes or so on the way down one of us would spot 1 or 5 67-72's on the side of the road too! I wish we had a 3 car wedge and a bunch of time but we had to be back to work on Monday morning so time was limited. We looked at a couple but nothing we could buy.

Good to hear from the Minnesota guys! I'll make a point to look you up if I'm out cruising your area, you're right we're pretty close. I usually fly through DL trying to get home, just like we did on the way back from this trip. You're always welcome to stop by the dealership anytime, drive a classic truck if you can! We did see the 67 I took a pic of at the beginning of this thread about 15-20 miles south of DL.

Same thing out here in NC. I love the fall because you can see in backyards easier with the trees bare. I just ride the Harley around the countryside looking for treasures in backyards. I know where there are two 69 Camaros in backyards (one in NC, one in SC) and a 68 Camaro that has had its nose poking out of a barn for years.

I'd love to find a 67 or 69 (I drove a 67 through a year of college) but they cost a fortune to buy and restore. These truck parts are just as plentiful but 1/4 the cost. I'm looking for an exhaust manifold for mine- same part number but if its being sold as the truck part its $25, if its being sold for a Camaro its $200. Same effin' part number......

That truck though is awesome- incredibly clean. What a find......

Re: Road TRIP! Headed west after a 69 GMC

I have a NOS manifold for a Big Block Camaro in the warehouse if you need one but cheap is something that it isn't. I can post the number if you need it. I was really amazed with how much stuff was laying around in peoples yards when we drove the smaller roads and stayed off the interstates, could have possibly found a lot of stuff if you're brave.

I found the exact part I needed at a local parts shop yesterday for $60. Kinda sorta pricey but it was already cleaned up, coated and the studs were removed so I was happy to pay it!

Got a set of studs, bolts and gaskets from NAPA and the old one came off today so I am good to go.

Thanks!
