How does one go about replacing their parking brake cables?

What part is frozen? If it's frozen at the wheels you can try to free it up by removing the cables from the backing plate and soaking them with PB Baster or another good penetrationg oil.I've never dealt with them being frozen at the other end.

Re: If my parking brake cable IS frozen....
I got some new ones from inline tube. Seems like they were fairly reasonably priced, and fit perfectly. The piece that goes to the wheels, that is. I had to make my own intermediate cable. No one repops those for the 67-68's.

Re: If my parking brake cable IS frozen....
Good thinking guys and it may well come to that.....I just called a friend who was a mechanic "back in the day" and he suggested penetrating oil the length of the cable. I'll try that tomorrow then get back on these things Friday.
If it comes to it, I'll remove the struts as suggested in the other thread and have a shop fix it or hire a shop guy to come to my garage (if any are game) and at least get me going until I can get it to a shop. |
