Heater Core Question
I have a wonderful little puddle under the front passenger side kick panel area on my pickup. Upon further inspection I confirmed my worst fears - heater core leak.
My truck has factory AC. I converted the cab from a non-AC to stock AC with all stock parts. My question is has anybody found an exact fit heater core for an AC truck? Looking online my local Napa can get me one for $45.44. "Spectra Premium" part number NHC6603112. The last time I did this was prior to the conversion to AC. The heater core I got then was an almost exact fit heater core. The metal straps in there needed to be tweaked to work right. I would prefer to get one that fits in there like the general intended. Or should I pull it, hook the two heater hoses together for now, and have it re-cored at a radiator shop?

Re: Heater Core Question
Your right on the spectra. It was PITA to make the retainers work.
Sorry, it's the only replacement I've used.

Re: Heater Core Question
Well I pulled the heater core this past weekend. It is furry enough to confirm what I suspected.
It is a stock unit. Stamped on each end is Harrison 70J. I googled around a bit and couldn't find an OEM replacement. A co-worker who is over on the build page making my truck look like a POS (when these guys interview with me why don't they say they are in to 67-72 Chevy trucks????) clicked around on Rockauto.com and found the $45 NAPA, Spectra Premium part # 94559, part for $31.79. The same web page has two more. PRO Part #9010121 for $47.79 VISTA-PRO Part #399090 for $54.79 Nobody I know could lead me to any local radiator shops to rebuild what I have laying on the tail gate so I'm leaning towards new. Does anybody have any experience with PRO or Visto-PRO? Bigdav160 already told me the Spectra Premium doesn't fit well. Anybody who has done this job knows you only want to do it once however for $31.79 I'm leaning that way.

C'mon! Don't tell me I'm the only one who doesn't want to see rusty heater core retainers when he has to R&R his heater core in another 40 years. Jeez!!!
