slip joint style shaft
have any of you guys on here upgraded to a slip joint style 2 piece drive shaft? and what were the results, found a local guy that will build me a 3in diameter 2 piece slip style with all 1350 series joints for about 700.00 , new yoke and pinion yoke .
i know Denny's use to build them but they discontinued that model for out style of trucks 72 C-10 LWB Cheyenne Vortec 355 /TH 350 |

Re: slip joint style shaft
Leaf spring trucks came with them, and still come with them in every make of full size truck.
The reason the coil spring trucks didn't "need" a slip in the rear shaft is because the control arms are about the same length as the rear shaft so the lenght of the rear shaft didn't need to change as the suspension cycled. That's why the light duty carrier bearing has a very soft rubber, to let the shaft move foreward and back the small ammount that it will. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: slip joint style shaft
You have a lwb, you can have a one piece made for a lot less, as long as theirs no clearance issues with your crossmember. I know lowered trucks clear just fine.

Re: slip joint style shaft
i just got mine back. upgraded aluminum/poly carrier bearing and slip/stub on the rear section. got around $450-500 in it with reusing the front tube and everything else new. new yoke, joints, etc. Have a 100 or so miles on it and no complaints.

Re: slip joint style shaft
I had a 3 inch one piece built (but it is for a SWB) with 1350 Spicer yoke and U joints for about 350 at Houston Drivetrain (local shop).

Re: slip joint style shaft
my truck is dropped 5/7 and i have a slip yoke d/s for mine (2 piece) it did "not" help in stopping carrier bearing breakage. if you want to buy it as a assembly i,ll make you a deal and i,am fairly close to you.
