84 K20 Steering Issue
I have my 84 k20 lifted 6" and my steering consists of just a raised arm for a 4-6" lift. Issue is I'm turning 39" tires and my drag link isn't parallel. When I turn it creaks and pops. Anyone else ever had this issue? Should I try a drop pitman arm? The drag link is brand new

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
My draglink is adjustable but it's a heavy duty stock upgrade so it's straight not bent like the rough country one. Wouldn't the rough country drag link plus the raised arm give me to much of a drop/raise and make my steering negative (axle side of draglink higher than the pitman arm?

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
the cracking and popping might be from the end joints being at the end of their flex. I had a similar issue with mine. the "Z" style from rough country keeps the ball joints level and allows them to rotate through their full range of motion

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
That's what I was thinking I'm just trying to eliminate possible solutions because I just spent 140 bucks on this heavy duty replacement lol so another 70 for rough country's arm kinda sucks. Buy these older gm pickups sort of had crappy steering from
The get go. I'd like to go crossover one day but with college starting tomorrow that will be out of the question for at least the next 4 years Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
ya its just one of those things you have to ask. the new draglink would be way cheaper than the crossover steering. you can always throw the old link on ebay or craigs list.... might not get full pop for it but might offset the cost of the z style link.....

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
Your right. Maybe I will give that rough country link a shot. I need to brace the steering box too before it decides to come unglued. The truck actually has 9" under it with a 6+3 body. I don't run it in the woods bc I just redid it through high school . But even driving normal it scares me turning 39.5 tsl'S

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
I can imagine.... mine gets a bit dicey with the 37's when I catch the ruts in the road from the bigrigs. make sure you have a good steering stabilizer as well. helps with the wander too.

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
I don't have much wander given my castor sucks because I have 4 degree pinion shims under my front leafs. I have a dual stacked rancho stabilizer on my front end. It's not bad to drive but it sounds like my tires catch my fenders when rolling through a parking lot making a turn. But it's the drag link, or atleast that's what I could see.

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
probably does.... I found with the stock draglink it would turn tighter one way than the other. steering wheel wasn't centered either. you can always get a buddy to check clearance while you wheel it lock to lock.

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
Well I adjusted the stock drag link enough to where my steering wheel was upright again but it still pops regardless

Thanks bud, she was built in the driveway for 2.5 years. The truck in my avatar is the same truck. That was before she got the makeover.

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
Now that my orange trucks finished I'd like to find one about as nice as yours and not quite as high as mine and run it without being afraid. My orange truck every time I'm out in town I get a few new paint chips n stuff. It's part of the game though.

Re: 84 K20 Steering Issue
Mine is a silverado as far as I know. It's not an air cab. I'm running a black dash with factory gauges and a 3.5" tach on my column. Factory recovered black bench seat and black carpet kit. I left the headliner out bc we painted inside the cab so roof is orange
