What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
I've been using PB Blaster, but my wife complains that it stinks up the garage and she can smell it in the house?
What do you suggest?

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
i find most of that stuff marginal at best // a hot blue flame works best in my opinion without residual smell/// that plus just snapping the smaller ones works great

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
PB is about as good or better than anything else I've tried.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
have not tried it myself, but my brother mixed acetone and trans fluid(50-50 I think). he said it worked better and faster than anything he has ever used.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
PB Blaster for the simple stuff, the sparkle wrench for the serious ones.
Tell your wife that fresh baked cookies easily overpowers the smell of PB Blaster. |

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
I know yall don't know me from Adam, but if you were to try Silikroil, you would never use anything else again...and I am not just talking for the smell...it is amazing how good it works.
No, I don't sell it.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
If PB wont take care of it I just fire up the torch. Heat seems to work no matter what.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
I found that PB gets gooey if left for a while, like presoaking an old truck part. Months later I have a mess and the bolt is still stuck.
I am a big fan of Kroil products. I have recently mixed up some acetone and ATF and put it in one of those cans with a shrader valve for pressure. Works OK. No complaints, but I have not seen any miricles yet.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
Aerokroil is the stuff, I had not heard of it until about 7 years ago when I went to work for a large oil Co. It is the standard in the oil and gas industry but you can't get it in any stores that I'm aware of, you can buy it direct from them. I think the company is Kano Labs.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
I tried a fairly new ( as far as I know anyway ) penetrant called freeall. I can get it at NAPA. I pulled the engine out of my '89 chevy truck so I could junk the truck and transplant the engine into a '95 that I picked up cheap. The '89 had 253,000 miles on it and about half of the body left. I changed the O2 sensor about 15 years ago and wanted to change it for the transplant. I sprayed it down on a Monday evening and again on Wednesday and left it,, Saturday I turned it out with a crescent wrench ,, quite easily actually. I have used it quite a bit since finding it about a year ago and I'm impressed.
Give it a try and report back what your opinions are . http://www.freealloil.com/ Since WD40 is basically useless any more I had gone back to liquid wrench squeeze bottle before finding free all. Tom |

I use gibbs, great for guns, spray on bare metal and weld through it. I get it by the case as i have a few friends using it as we live in the salt belt.

Re: What penetrant do you use on rusty bolts?
x4 (or whatever) for the Kan-o-Kroil I have 2 cans I bought years ago,, have used about 1/2 of one can. They call it the oil that 'creeps' . WOW, what an understatment! put a drop on a bumper bolt and you'll find traces of it on the horn button in a few weeks!! LOL,, seriously,, it penitrates quicker than a prom king at midnight!

Another vote for Kroil here. That stuff amazes me nearly every time I use it.
