in dash ignition switch w/buzzer

Use a piece of wire and attach a key to it and tie it up under the truck somewhere. My grandpa still has his like that today. Or get a hide a key box.

None of those solutions prevent you from leaving the key in the vehicle where a thief can easily see it.

Some of the later vehicles have gone back to dash mounted switches but they're using low current stuff today with relays. And, some of the switches are tied into a wheel and shift interlock.

You could tie a string from your belt loop to the key.

thats my problem leaving key in the ignition switch,
not loosing my key.

for some reason i keep leaving the key in truck, I didnt drive it for a few days.
I went searching for the keys. went out to ck to see if i left them in the truck,
sure enough there was the key dangling in the dash, the truck was parked at the end of my driveway 70 feet way from the house and close to the street, yikes!
it been sitting there for 3-4 days with the key in it and a full tank of gas.
i guess my modern cars have got me spoiled with the push button/ ding-ding crap.

seems there would be a later switch i could adapt. adding a headlight warning/ and "key is in the ignition warning"

the late model tilt steering column i used,has the switch removed, so that is not an option.

Gents it looks like his problem isn't "locking' his keys in his truck.

Off hand I don't know of any dash mounted switches that have a buzzer but that doesn't mean there isn't one. The column mounted ignitions have a little switch on the back of them that triggers the buzzer while the ignition switch is down on the column.
I think it is just developing the habit of removing the key as soon as you turn it off without letting go of it. Maybe turn key off put key in left hand and release seat belt and you are out of the truck key in hand.
