drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
this is my first c10 & first v8. i got a 69 swb and a 67 front end(i like better) for $900. the PO did a 5lug on 4 3/4 conversion with SD 1" rotor disk brake conversion up front.(CCP part# 6770CBK5)
i am on a very tight budget and would like to use this 1" rotor set up, since it came on truck and was never used. i can only find drop spindles that use 1 1/4" rotors or does not specify. is there any drop spindles that will accept my 1" rotor? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 454 to be rebuilt and installed ![]() Last edited by Ciddy; 09-12-2013 at 12:58 PM. Welcome to the board.
You need to call CPP and talk to their sales representative and he will be able to tell you what parts will work with it. |

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
Your kit uses a early Chevelle rotor with a Camaro caliper on the stock drum brake spindle.
(with a bolt on caliper bracket) You will have to switch to a 67-70 conversion drop truck spindle and a different rotor and caliper to get drop spindles on your truck.

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
yeah, i was afraid of that. for now i will have to do a 3/5 drop with springs only. probably going to get the CPP deluxe drop kit. part# 6372CSSK-D
i will wait until these new brakes need to be replaced(and i have more $), then i will change to 1 1/4" rotors/calipers/drop spindles. thank you for your help. Cliff |

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
On the bright side you can sell those parts on craigslist and get some money out of the deal to go towards your new disk brake spindles.
Did the previous owner instal new upper and lower ball joints already? I thought I would mention that 2" is the most you can drop the front end on stock spindles because anything more and the geometry is unreconicilable and you wont be able to get it to align. |

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
thanks for mentioning the alignment issues. some people say 3" can be aligned, some people say it cant. my buddy that is helping me a lot on this build, says we will get the 3" drop(springs) aligned, using extra shims at the top. even if i do have a little negative camber, wont i handle better?
![]() this truck will not be a daily driver. just a weekend, tire smoking, noise maker! i am ok with uneven tire wear for a couple years until my budget allows for the proper drop. XEEN-i am not sure if the ball joints were changed already. i will look into that anyone else have thoughts on just a 3" drop spring up front? |

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
As long as your control arm bushings are tight and not sloppy, you can align one at 3 inch spring drop. You'll have stacks of shims at each point, but it should align.

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
Here is something else to think about, if you do 2" drop springs and 2.5" drop spindles that will put you at 4.5" drop in the front and you probably wont want to go more than that because you will be at 4.5" front and 6" rear.
Also keep in mind that the drop spindle doesn't change your geometry so if a 3" drop spring does end up being unreconcilable then it wont work now and it wont work later either. |

Re: drop spindle for 1" SD rotor???
i contacted the PO. he told me that the spindles are interchangeable from 67-87. if that is the case i can get Mcgaughys 73-87 2.5 drop spindles. then i would just have to change the tie rod ends and ball joints? correct?
