Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

a 1/2 ton ya, but not a 3/4 ton...but could make one of course. Not everyone knows all about their truck the own as in a past builder. Someone could have added 3/4 ton diffs to a 1/2 ton.

Could be a combination of things, cut down 3/4 ton, or a short bed 1/2 ton with 3/4 ton running gear, who knows, but no, GM never built a 3/4 ton shortbed truck, 2wd or 4wd. All were longbeds, longhorns, or cab and chassis with conversion beds (flatbeds, etc)

Not from the factory. GM never produced a 3/4 ton short box. It was a nice thought and many have converted a 1/2 ton shorty to a 3/4 ton.

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

I thought about building one up years ago. I though it would be neat, but shortbeds are just so useless for hauling.

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

Not from factory and even with 3/4t axles the frame is still lighter. I had a '71 C/30 Napco. It was a C/30 converted by Napco, not a K/30. I know of no lighter Napcos produced this late. Pretty sure they just filled the gap left by the factory. If this truck was a Napco conversion it will have a divorced transfer case,C VIN,and won't have a Dana44.

Must say though, a 3/4-1 ton short box lifted is just cool, not good for much but still..

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

Well it is still all Gm parts, so no big deal, nothing like working on a GM product everything can be made to fit quite easily.

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

I had everything to build a '71 shortbed K/30 Stepside, but ended up selling the truck. Now all that's going under a '72 K2500 to be a K3500 that GM never built. My '85 Jimmy has the 8-lug axles swapped under it from the 3/4t '91 Suburban I had. It was a bolt-on swap

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

I have an original 1/2 ton SWB 4WD truck, but no 3/4 tons were made. I think it would be cool to cut down my 2WD C20 truck and put a short bed on it. Just doesn't seem like the project I want to get into right now, plus there doesn't seem to be too many short boxes for sale around here.

Mines not quite where haysonj's is yet but very similar. Only One ton. Seriously tough truck and seems to tow just fine. Always worried about leaving it at the boat launch...

I do worry about it but I have a good alarm and a hidden switch on the computor so it can't be hot wired. They would have to cut the trailer off to tow as the trailer brakes have a lock on them.

Now thats badass right there. Looks like a worth while build.

So whats the story? A long bed cut down or a short bed outfitted with heavy gear? I assume the latter. Beautiful job.

Re: Anyone ever run accross a shortbox 3/4 ton

In the mean time I made an ofter on this truck and was rold he wanted 15 k as is

Its a okay truck but I didn't think it was worth 15 k the front you see is a GMC which needed to go back to a body shop.... when the floor and rocker were put in they didn't make sure the doors were lined up kinda heart breaking to see a nice truck and the doors could not be shut

If that's the truck it's a 1/2 ton. Still a nice truck to start but 15g's no.

My mistake. Reread your post. Make your own 3/4 or one ton! Cheaper than your offer on that rig...
