Time for some tunes

Knowing that winter is creeping up on us sucks, but it does give us a few long months to tinker with our projects. For next summer I'd like to have some tunes in the truck, but have a few questions. I am planning on keeping the stock AM radio in it's place, it's not hooked up but it still has it's own element of cool. I'd like to be able to hide it all and drill a single hole in the dash for an Ipod to plug into if possible. What kind of options am I looking at?

Re: Time for some tunes

you can get a radio that fits in the old radio holes and has ipod hookups and remote control and still keeps the look.

Re: Time for some tunes

I'm using a radio delete plate in the dash. For tunes, a single amp under the seats, xm radio, and a PAC remote volume control, 6X9's in boxes behind the seats, everything is hidden.

Re: Time for some tunes

If you ditch the stock radio I'd be interested in buying it from you.

BTW, Retrosound offers a radio that will fit in the stock location, has a rear aux input, front aux input, and will control a usb drive. i have one in my C-10 and love it.

I have one in my truck but would prefer a stocker AM. I am also interested if you deside to ditch the AM. I would put a later model radio in the glove box and keep the stock radio for nastalgia looks.
Just saying that's would I want too do.

Dudie, if you get a chance, could you take a picture of your original in it's place?

I bought an after market for mine, I'm curious as to how close it is to your original.

Thanks, Jim

Re: Time for some tunes

I used Custom Auto Sound unit... hid the main part under the seat and put the face plate in the glove box.. has iPad, XM, CD hook up
Just bought another one from CAS but this one has a hand held unit no face plate and hid the main unit in the trunk...

Re: Time for some tunes

I did this on the Blazer I just sold. iPod/iPhone hookup to an AM radio. I started a thread on it in the blazer section. You might want to check it out.

Here's a link to the thread with the instructions I followed.

Re: Time for some tunes

Thanks Groyd, that's the kind of set up I was looking for. I plan on leaving the stock AM radio in the dash to keep it complete. I may just hook the lights up so they come on with the dash bulbs but the radio is purely for decoration.

Jim, I'll try to remember to snap a pic of it for you tonight bud

Re: Time for some tunes

Mine looked good whenever I turned on the lights and the old radio dash light came on. It definitely confused some people when they saw/heard it.

Re: Time for some tunes

how is the sound quality? I plan on running 2 speakers from it instead of just the 1

Re: Time for some tunes

You can definitely get a beefier amp and set up as much sound as you want. I also just had two 6x9's hooked up. It sounded fine with the top off and cruising down the highway.

Re: Time for some tunes

I went with a Custom AutoSound USA-630 AM/FM with USB / CD Changer Control & iPod Doc # CAM-CHTKM-630.

I wanted the classic look with modern sound.

I haven’t installed it yet - I hope it delivers.
